Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are synonymous with the action genre. In the '80s, both were rivals, and their reach extended across several franchises and films. According to recent comments by Stallone, that rivalry actually ran much deeper - the two reportedly “loathed” one another.

While Stallone and Schwarzenegger starred in some testosterone-fueled action movies, they’ve also found themselves in some rather silly roles. For instance, Schwarzenegger infamously starred in 1994’s Junior, a film which derives its humor from Schwarzenegger's character being an incredibly buff man who also happens to be pregnant. Meanwhile, Stallone infamously starred in 1992’s Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (also starring the late Estelle Getty), which was critically derided and mocked in pop culture, eventually earning three Razzies, one of which Stallone bagged for Worst Actor.

During separate interviews on The Jonathan Ross Show and Fox & Friends, Stallone states that he and Schwarzenegger “couldn't stand to be in the same galaxy together for a while.” He underscored his point by saying, "We truly, truly loathed each other." The feud apparently began because Stallone would frequently try to take roles from Schwarzenegger. According to Stallone, however, Schwarzenegger was a “prankster.”

Stallone stated that “He's quite clever. He goes around town saying, 'I can't wait to do this film.' I go to my agent, 'Get that thing away from him. Get people options on me.' I got it and I said, 'What a piece of s*** this is.' He goes, 'Ha ha ha!'” The film was Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, which Stallone said Schwarzenegger made it seem like he really wanted to do. "I go, 'Well, I'm not going to let that happen,'" Stallone said. "So, I snatch it. I said, 'I want this film desperately.'” He then realized the film was not the best project to be working on and was actually considered one of the worst movies of that decade.

Referencing Schwarzenegger's turn in Junior, Stallone said, “At least I wasn't pregnant in a film, Arnold. We're even." He seems to have put the past behind him, with his quote about needing a galaxy between them only “for a while” seeming to point towards the two being fine with each other now.

Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger have remained actors to this day. While Stallone appeared in some of the Creed movies, reprising his role as Rocky Balboa, Schwarzenegger appeared in several of the Terminator sequels. Both appear to have found their niche in nostalgia, which means they aren’t competing for roles anymore. Hopefully, that helped them reach some semblance of cordiality.
