A New 'Army of Two' Title is in The Works

New Army of Two Game

A new version of Electronic Arts' hit-and-miss third person shooter Army of Two is in production, according to a pair of recent job postings on the Electronic Arts Jobs page.

The jobs being advertised are for a Lead Environment Artist and a Senior Producer over at Visceral Games Montreal, the developers behind the Army of Two franchise.

Looking at the importance of both of the job titles, it is pretty obvious that a new Army of Two game is in the very early stages of its life, and it is almost certain that a new title will not be hitting shelves this year.

Visceral Games, who also make the Dead Space titles, will be looking to improve upon the previous effort, Army of Two: The 40th Day. The follow-up to the original Army of Two brought little in the way of innovation, or major new features and was frankly, a disappointment for most.

The best feature about The 40th Day was undoubtedly the co-op, so it will be interesting to see whether Visceral Games manages to expand upon the gameplay to make it one of the main selling points of the new title – if the last attempt was anything to go by, we'd say this route has the best chance of success.

Looking at other options, the team at Visceral could attempt to go down the same lines as Homefront in terms of creating a shooter that is a little more story focused than others, although we would hope that a strong storyline wouldn't fizzle out in the same way that it did in Kaos Studios' title.

One thing every fan of the franchise will be hoping for, at the very least, is a graphics overhaul and a revised or improved control scheme, which held back what would have otherwise been fun gunplay in previous attempts. Players will be hoping for big improvements and hopefully the team that works on the new Army of Two title will draw expertise from other members of the Visceral Games studios, who managed to make the Dead Space titles look so attractive.

What do you think of the news of a new Army of Two game? Is the market already saturated with military shooters? What would you like to see Visceral Games do to stand out from the crowd? Let us know in the comments.
