After a long wait, Netflix has released the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. The action-packed heist film has a unique twist, as the heist takes place during a zombie apocalypse and the undead appear in the trailer as “smarter, faster, and more organized” than anything fans have seen before, including an unexpected zombie tiger making an appearance.

The trailer begins with the information that Las Vegas has been “walled off” with a horde of zombies being left in the abandoned city. But, all the money in the casinos, to the tune of $200 million, seems to have been left behind when Sin City was evacuated. Will the humans be able to get through the army of the dead to reach it? Fans will find out on May 21, 2021 when the film releases.

The film will follow the journey of Scott Ward, portrayed by actor Dave Bautista, forming a group of mercenaries who are brave enough to venture into the quarantine zone and pull off the ultimate heist. The trailer confirms that the team has a “32-hour window” to get in and out. But, obviously things don’t go as planned and the group runs into the modified zombies. The three-minute trailer is packed with gunfire, explosions, and a lot of blood-shed with one of the mercenaries even wielding a chainsaw.

Snyder has been teasing the arrival of the trailer for a few days now. On his official Twitter account, he shared the official poster of the film last week, while confirming that the trailer would drop on Tuesday. In past interviews, Snyder has confirmed that the film will be a “full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie”, but will have a major focus on the characters’ journey and development as well.

Army of the Dead was first announced in 2008 and was meant to work as a sequel to 2004’s Dawn of the Dead. Snyder began developing the film with Warner Bros., home of the DC Extended Universe, and Universal Pictures, which produced the director’s Dawn of the Dead. But, the project didn’t seem to work out at the time and more than a decade later, Netflix took over in January 2019 and brought Snyder back to direct. The Justice League director has also written the script, along with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold. Apart from the film, Netflix is also producing a prequel movie and an anime series based on Snyder's script.

Apart from Bautista, the film features Ella Purnell as Kate Ward, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raul Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighofer, Samantha Win, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Richard Cetrone.

Army of the Dead is scheduled to release in select theaters and Netflix on May 21, 2021.
