Sony is aiming to do with their upcoming handheld what Nintendo failed to at the launch of the 3DS and by that we mean, support it with worthwhile games. The Vita will launch with at least a dozen first-party titles, according to the European Vita launch line-up, and that's not accounting for the even greater amount of third party games also releasing for the Vita.

One of those titles coming from Square Enix is Army Corps of Hell and today we have a batch of screenshots from the Goblin-friendly Vita exclusive as well another major Square Enix release in Final Fantasy XIII-2, a sequel to a game that earned mixed responses.

Army Corps of Hell lets players command a small army of 100 goblins while utilizing the Vita's unique rear touchpad feature. The game also supports up to 4-player multiplayer.

Defeated in battle, the King of Hell is stripped of his powers and banished from his throne. Burned to a meager corpse, the dethroned king uses the last of his strength to take command of a corps of weak-minded goblins. He commands this ragtag army of bloodthirsty goblins as he fights through hell to reclaim his throne, destroying his enemies and looting their corpses for equipment along the way.

Army Corps of Hell is developed by Entersphere Co., Ltd, a Japanese developer formed by ex-Nintendo staff who worked on the beloved Pikmin titles.

Square Enix also released five new screenshots for the direct sequel of Final Fantasy XIII which delves deeper into the story of fan-favorite character, Lightning. The franchise, according to Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada , is not in the best shape and they're looking to change the direction for the series going forward.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases inJapan on December 15, 2011, January 31, 2012 in North America and February 3, 2012 in Europe. Army Corps of Hell will be unleashed on the PS Vita in February 2012.
