Studio Wildcard reveals story-building Explorer Notes for ARK: Survival Evolved, while also announcing plans to stop adding new creatures to the game for the time being.

While Studio Wildcard has been consistently updating ARK: Survival Evolved with new content, one area of the game that the company has not paid much attention to is the story. That will change over the next few weeks, however, as the studio has announced plans to add “Explorer Notes” to ARK: Survival Evolved.

Explorer Notes are documents detailing the life of a character that lived on the island before the player. Once found, these notes will help players get closer to solving the mysteries behind the titular ARK. It remains to be seen how extensive these notes will be, and how much “story” they will truly add to the ARK experience, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Besides detailing Explorer Notes, Studio Wildcard has also announced plans to take a break from adding new dinosaurs to the game. Over the last couple of months, the company has added a giant kangaroo, a three-seater dinosaur, and more, but before finalizing the last batch of creatures to be added to the game ahead of its official launch, it wants to monitor how players respond to the previously released content first.

That’s not to say that support overall for ARK will be slowing down. On the contrary, Studio Wildcard plans on revealing new content for the game every Monday. This will likely include content similar to the grappling hook or the riot armor that was recently added to the experience, so players can probably look forward to more gear to help them survive the dinosaurs that are already in ARK.

With less than six months until the planned full release of ARK: Survival Evolved, Studio Wildcard will have to make some tough decisions regarding what to add to the game before launch. Considering the creativity that the studio has shown with creatures in the past, it’s anyone’s guess as to what will be added to the game in future updates, though the developer has hinted that the aquatic Basilosaurus is on deck.

Whatever the studio adds to ARK: Survival Evolved next, we have confidence that it will be of quality. So far, Studio Wildcard has proven to be a talented developer, adding worthwhile content to ARK like the aforementioned dinosaurs and gear, as well as brand new features like split-screen support, Tribe Alliances, and even a Hunger Games-inspired mode. Time will tell what’s up next for ARK, but luckily we won’t have to wait long to find out, as the next content update for ARK will be revealed this coming Monday.

ARK: Survival Evolved is due for full release this June on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
