Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of Studio Wildcard, reveals that ARK: Survival Evolved has sold over 1 million copies on PS4 since the game released for the system.

Although it was a long time coming, ARK: Survival Evolved finally saw its PS4 release on December 6, 2016. Sony fans looking to play the dinosaur-heavy survival game had to be patient while PC and Xbox One users tested the waters of the game, and then had to wait further after a substantial delay to the title's release date. However, it turns out that all this waiting may have turned out for the best, as the game has just hit a substantial PS4 milestone.

According to Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of Studio Wildcard and lead designer on ARK: Survival Evolved, the game has now sold over 1 million copies on the PS4. "We want to say a big THANK YOU to all the fans who have supported us as we march toward completion of this epic game," said Stieglitz in a statement. "The community is the key part of what makes ARK an exciting, dynamic experience and keeps survivors coming back for more!"

Hitting the 1 million copies sold mark within such a short amount of time is a tremendous feat for the title, and perhaps a testament to how much fun the game can be. After all, with PS4 owners only able to get their hands on the game in December, there was the potential for burnout given how much exposure ARK: Survival Evolved had already received for its PC and Xbox One versions. Although the 1 million copies milestone was not hit as quickly as on PC, it's clear that there is a strong PS4 community to add to the other systems.

The PS4 release of the game was a long time coming. Studio Wildcard co-founder Jesse Rapczak was discussing the PS4 version of ARK: Survival Evolved a year ago, explaining that the other early access versions of the game (particularly the Xbox One version) would help improve the title's PS4 port. In any case, PS4 users certainly seem to be embracing the title, and it's been a shot in the arm for split screen gaming to boot - albeit with a few bugs along the way.

There is certainly a lot going on behind the scenes with ARK: Survival Evolved, too, with the release of the Tek Tier update for consoles. This update provides plenty of new gear for players, with jet packs, helmets, and even high-tech weaponry, while hair customization and real-time hair growth is also now on the cards. The new update for the game also brings with it 4 new creatures, with some fearsome predators alongside the humble sheep.

Up next, though, Studio Wildcard also has ARK spin-offs on the cards. Recently, the studio unveiled a new trailer for VR title ARK Park, promising an exciting new virtual reality experience from the ARK franchise. Whether that game manages to capture the same magic as ARK: Survival Evolved, however, only time will tell.
