While maybe not the most aggressive dinosaur in Ark: Survival Evolved, the Carbonemys is a great swimmer and a wonderful tank. Here's how to tame one. Ark: Survival Evolved is an open-world survival game in which players are met with a variety of challenges. They can build amazing bases, create powerful tools, and hunt or tame wonderful dinosaurs. Some dinosaurs are undeniably deadly and can be difficult to bring into the base as a pet. Whereas others are more docile, excelling in their own elements and proving to be an equally useful addition to any player's base.

When it comes to being docile but useful, the Carbonemys is the best decision. It's particularly useful around water and will bring a fair amount of aid to any player choosing to tame them. However, taming them is far from an easy task, it requires understanding, skill, and the right tools.

What The Carbonemys Can Do

What The Carbonemys Can Do

The Carbonemys isn't really known for its power or its speed on land. After all, it's essentially a giant turtle. Nevertheless, it can be a particularly useful creature when swimming or if players are looking for a tank. It can also be ideal to provide a little distraction to other, more deadly creatures when players are looking to tame more animals. Nevertheless, this dinosaur can be particularly useful throughout the game.

Tank

The Carbonemys has a naturally high hit point maximum and brings with it a rather large shell to provide even more protection. This makes it an ideal creature when players need to avoid being hit by either other players or other creatures.

The Carbonemys will take most of the hits without dying so players are able to ride it into battle with little care for its health or survivability, just be aware it isn't immortal and is extremely slow on land.

Swimming

Since this dinosaur is essentially a giant turtle, it's an ideal candidate for players looking at doing a bit of marine exploration. It has a great swim speed which, when combined with the added health and protection, makes it a fantastic companion for anything to do with water.

It's ideal to simply have the Carbonemys as a swimming companion unless players want to look at getting more kibble.

Eggs

Due to the Carbonemys being a rather sizable creature, it regularly lays medium-sized eggs which are perfect for making Regular Kibble. Due to the size of the eggs, the frequency in which they lay, and the fact that this dinosaur is relatively common on the islands of Ark: Survival Evolved, players can create a great source of eggs to make Kibble or other items which allows for more taming and more efficiency.

How To Tame The Carbonemys

An unconscious Carbonemys

With the right tools and the right food, players can tame the Carbonemys with relative ease. After all, it's not a quick beast, so players won't need to chase after it. To tame the Carbonemys the player will need to knock it out. This can be done using ranged weapons fitted with tranquilizers or by using slingshots. Just make sure to avoid the shell since that's too well armored to do anything useful. If players don't have these items then simply jumping onto it and hitting it with clubs will work too.

After this, simply enter what looks like the unconscious Carbonemys' inventory and begin feeding it food to tame. It's worth waiting until the beast is just about to run out of food before introducing the next item to provide maximum efficiency. Once this has been completed the player will have a tamed Carbonemys, all they need to do is put a saddle on it. In steps, to tame this animal players need to:

  1. Knock it out, using tranquilizers or brute force, being careful not to kill it
  2. Feed it the recommended food
  3. Put a saddle on its back

The Best Food

Kibble and tea leaves

When it comes to taming a creature using food, there's an efficient way and there's a costly way. The efficient way typically requires kibble which can be a challenge to get hold of. Nevertheless, if players want to go for the best food to tame a Carbonemys then they should look at feeding it Regular Kibble or Pteranodon Kibble depending on what console they are using. Doing so should take around 20 minutes to tame the creature and has a great effectiveness making it relatively reliable.

If Kibble is unobtainable then players who are exploring Primitive Plus will be able to use Fresh Tea Leaves. They will need to collect around 160 of these for it to work. This takes just under 50 minutes to complete and has a high enough effectiveness to keep the player feeling confident about the tame.

If playing the base game, it's worth using crops to feed the Carbonemys. Players may need around 160, and it will take just over an hour and a half to complete, but it should work with little concern for failure.
