A while ago, Ark: Survival Evolved transitioned from a dinosaur-packed survival simulator into a science fiction kaleidoscope that somehow merged with various fantasy elements to create a completely unique gaming experience. It's one of those games that only seem limited by the imagination of the indie developers at Studio Wildcard and the affiliated studios who also worked on the game, however, this resource is in bountiful supply.
Drawing inspiration from nature's most bizarre organisms, Ark: Survival Evolved now grants players the potential to find and tame fictional creatures that are completely original to the game, one of which is the majestic Maewing. Very much a hybrid beast, the Maewing looks to be a cross between a Sugar Glider and a Platypus.
While not the first hybrid creature in the game, the Maewing is one of the newest, as it only appears in the fifth and last DLC expansion for the game, Genesis: Part 2. Those seeking a way to transport and nurture babies should definitely seek out a Maewing, especially since it also provides a very fast travel option for the player.
4 Where To Find Maewings
Maewings can be found in a large quadrant of the Genesis: Part 2 map; the entire upper right quarter to be exact. This gives the player lots of chances to spot the majestic mammalians soaring about the bizarre yet beautiful landscape.
Since these creatures don't have very good aquatic skills, despite being part Platypus, one will be better off hanging out on land while hunting for a Maewing. Furthermore, since they enjoy flying around, it would easier to spot them from hills and other high ground as opposed to lurking through forests.
3 How To Tame Maewings
How To Catch A Maewing
Once the player finds a Maewing, it can be tough to catch them as they are very flighty and will take to the sky the moment that one gets too close.
However, they are not the sturdiest of beasts and can be knocked out with only a couple of shots from a tranquilizer weapon. Such tools with a decent range should be enough to take down the Maewing quickly so that it does not escape, which allows the player to secure them in some sort of pen (build a structure around the knocked-out creature) for taming.
If one is working with a less than ideal tranquilizer weapon, it may be helpful to first implement a Net Projectile to snare one's prey so that the player can line up and deliver shots easier.
The Best Food For Taming Maewings
This hybrid creature is an omnivore, meaning that it eats both meat and plants, however, there are a few foods that Maewings prefer over others. They tend to be more fond of meat and particularly enjoy Prime Meat, Mutton, and Basic Kibble, with the latter surprisingly being their favorite. Offering them enough of these kinds of food will win over a Maewing very quickly.

1 What The Maewing Does & Why Players Should Tame One
Very Fast Traveling
Players should seek out Maewings early in their Genesis: Part 2 adventures, as they are extremely fast and can soar over terrain swiftly, which will make one's life easier when traveling around the huge map. They can also take off and land quickly, making for efficient transportation.
Raising Babies
As one may be able to glean from the nipple-like structures on the sides of a Maewing's body, these creatures can be excellent nursemaids for baby animals. They actually act like a Feeding Trough for infant creatures, who can suckle from them if the player feeds the Maewing the appropriate food for nursing that particular species.
Put simply, players expecting their Maewing to nurse tiny carnivores will have to feed their Maewing meat, whereas they would need to feed them berries to nurse little herbivores.
Baby Transport & Baby Stealing
Players can equip Maewings with a couple of Saddle Baskets, which allows one to place babies safely in them for transportation. This is a great way to ferry one's younger creatures quickly and securely from one place to another, however, this can also be used for some... other kinds of taming.
Due to the effect of these Saddle Baskets and the Maewings fast flight, players can potentially swoop in, snatch up a wild baby creature, secure them in a Saddle Basket, and then take off before the parent creature can react. While a bit sinister, this can be a great way to obtain and raise many creatures.
