At long last, Snail/Peacock studios has released an official teaser trailer for the upcoming VR experience ARK Park. A spin-off game based around the hugely-successful ARK: Survival Evolved, the dinosaur VR title looks to be extremely reminiscent of blockbuster sensation Jurassic Park.

Of course, there's more than just dinosaurs in terms of similarities between the two, with ARK Park sporting a very familiar looking gate and many features of the resort looking like they've been taken straight from the Jurassic franchise. It also seems that having a dino-themed vacation spot is just asking for trouble however, as Jurassic Park isn't alone in having technical difficulties, and the ancient inhabitants are free and out for blood.

ARK Park has players gearing up to stop waves of dinosaurs in the only way possible – by shooting them in the face. VR gamers will use everything from bows and arrows to heavy mounted machine guns in their quest to kill as many dinos as possible before they themselves are killed. Judging by the amount of dislikes on the trailer, it's a design choice that doesn't seem to be working for the series' fan base.

Among complaints about the game being just another VR wave shooter, many fans seem to take issue with the fact that ARK Park is abandoning the taming dinosaur theme that ARK: Survival Evolved is all about – in fact leaning quite heavily in the opposite direction. Previous trailers don't appear to have revealed this aspect of the game in as much detail, and it seems to have led to a lot of confusion as to what gamers would be doing in the upcoming spin-off.

It's entirely possible that this newly-revealed shooter won't be the only mode that the VR experience has to offer and – regardless of one's feelings toward the new trailer – it's impossible to deny that the visuals look stunning. Unfortunately for the series, the developers of the original title are already in the hot seat lately due to a price-increase controversy, so things aren't looking particularly good for the future of dinosaur gaming.

ARK Park is scheduled for a 2017 release date.
