Among yesterday's huge Game Awards announcements was the reveal that Ark would be getting a sequel, with the announcement trailer featuring Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel in the central role. However, the reveal was followed by another interesting tidbit for fans of the multiplayer game, with the team revealing that an animated TV series would be joining the follow-up in 2022.

Simply titled Ark: The Animated Series, the show received a brief teaser hinting that it will center around an as of yet unnamed female character navigating the treacherous world established through Ark: Survival Evolved and its expansions. During the trailer, the character rides a Parasaur into a jungle clearing before being attacked by an armor-clad enemy on a raptor, with the two cascading off a waterfall.

Landing in the clearing below, the protagonist manages to defeat her heavily armed assailant with the help of her Parasaur, with the brutal final blow showing that the series will definitely not be for younger audiences. Aside from that, the animated adaptation is something of a mystery, with fans already speculating about where its story will take place.

Seeing as Ark: Survival Evolved has always had in-depth lore for those who chose to look for it, there's sure to be some exciting expansions of the story through the upcoming TV show. It will allegedly boast a huge, star-studded cast too, including David Tennant, Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Wright, and Michelle Yeoh. With the series set to launch around the same time as Ark 2, it'll interesting to see whether Vin Diesel's character from the sequel's recent trailer somehow ties into the plot.

Ark: The Animated Series is set to air in 2022.
