While over a year has passed since Ark 2 was first announced, the sequel to the popular survival game has been kept largely under wraps. The only previous trailer for the highly-anticipated Ark: Survival Evolved sequel came alongside the game's December 2020 announcement with no new information since then. Now, with Studio Wildcard recently confirming the second Ark game would make an appearance during the Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase, Sunday's presentation unveiled a brand-new trailer for the game.

Little new information has been shared about the Ark: Survival Evolved sequel aside from the pieces of information fans have garnered from its initial trailer. The Ark 2 announcement revealed that Vin Diesel would be playing a major role in the upcoming Ark sequel, both starring in Ark 2 and serving as its executive producer. While fans were able to pick out certain dinosaurs returning from its initial reveal, Studio Wildcard has yet to comment on any changes to the gameplay or mechanics of the sequel. Now, Ark 2 has finally received its second initial trailer with the newest look into the game setting up its story.

Ark 2's newest trailer introduces the world of Ark from the point of view of the Vin Diesel-played Santiago's daughter, Meeka, as she reflects on the history of the game's world. According to Meeka's explanation, a great war ravaged the Earth with the people of Earth sending dinosaurs to survive on the far-off planet of Arat. The trailer also places a focus on the connection between Santiago and Meeka, suggesting the father-daughter pair's relationship may be a main part of Ark 2's story. Studio Wildcard also teases a release window at the trailer's conclusion revealing Ark 2 is scheduled to launch in 2023.

Between the debut trailer and Ark 2's newest story-themed video, the survival game sequel looks to be placing a heavy focus on its in-game story and characters. The game's initial reveals have steeped heavily in the game's characters with Vin Diesel's Santiago taking the spotlight throughout both trailers. Ark 2's announcement video also teased some of the more futuristic elements of the game's story with the prominence of the "Genesis System" in the trailer's conclusion.

While Ark 2's newest info pushes the game's tentative release date beyond 2022, Ark: Survival Evolved has continued to see frequent updates even since the sequel's announcement. The first Ark game debuted its newest DLC alongside the newest Ark 2 trailer with players able to explore the diverse biomes of the island of Fjordur. Ark: Survival Evolved has remained a popular title among fans with the survival game added to Xbox Game Pass and featured by PS Plus earlier this year. While Ark 2 may still be well into the future, Studio Wildcard has continued to give fans new ways to experience the first Ark.
