It's been a treat of a month for fans of the PC game League of Legends and its animated TV adaptation, Arcane. Riot Games revealed on its official website at the beginning of November that there would be a League of Legends event called "RiotX Arcane" this month, which tied with the animated series' debut and celebrated the weekly release of each episode. Fans were treated to some exciting news towards the close of the event on Saturday: the second season of Arcane is in production.

The series is Riot Games' first foray into television and was initially announced back in 2019 with a slated release of 2020, but many COVID-19 pandemic-related delays meant it didn't get its debut until this year. Fans didn't get the first teaser for Arcane until May 2021. Now, just as season one has concluded - on a very successful cliffhanger - the League of Legends series has been renewed by Netflix. Netflix Geeked then posted a teaser clip on its Twitter yesterday along with the announcement, which has already got fans excited.

The Tweet reads, "Ready yourselves, friends. Season 2 of Arcane is now in production." The posted clip contains a series of voiceovers from characters over animation of an electrified letter "A," and so confirms that the characters of Vi and Caitlyn will both be making a return and will be focused on hunting down Jinx together. All three of those characters, the teaser confirms, will be keeping their voice actors: Hawkeye star Hailee Steinfeld, Katie Leung, and Ella Purnell, respectively. This means that fans can expect the second season to pick up where the first left off in its climactic finale, a fact many will be glad about. Fortiche Productions will also reportedly be returning to animate.

It's no surprise the series, which only debuted this month, has been renewed this quickly considering that it's been so well-received. Arcane has proven to be hugely popular, currently resting at the number two spot on Netlix's Global Top 10 list of English language TV shows. Arcane is also a rarity in that it's a succesful video game to TV series adaptation. It's managed to impress passionate fans loyal to a franchise with an intimidating amount of lore and critics as well, demonstrating that Riot Games seem to have cracked the formula. Co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee said they are "beyond happy" with the positive response that the first season received and confirmed they are "working hard" on the second.

There are no details about when the season will be released yet, but fans will be hoping for a shorter development time than the first season of Arcane underwent. CEO of Riot Games, Nicolo Laurent, referenced this long production in a tweet yesterday saying, "you won't have to wait for 6 years (the time it took us to make season 1)" but confirmed that it won't be next year. There will be a lot of pressure on the creators after such a success for the first series, but it should be a positive sign that it's not being rushed.

Co-creator Linke has been confirmed as an executive producer, too, so the series will be in safe creative hands. In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy the RiotX Arcane event, which includes free Arcane skins in League of Legends and a host of other exciting goodies.

Arcane season one is currently available to stream on Netflix.
