Back in 2021, Arcadegeddon made its first appearance during a PlayStation State of Play feature alongside other upcoming releases. Now, after a substantial wait and Arcageddon's trailer being discussed for a year, the co-operative shooter finally has an official release date.

Publisher and developer IllFonic, known for Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, has been developing its colorful multiplayer shooter since the Early Access teaser. After almost a full year, Arcadegeddon is set for release, with good news for all the Early Access owners and interested players.

The visual art style and tone of Arcadegeddon is described as a combination of "the Muppets, Gorillaz, and 90s punk rock." Arcadegeddon's visual style is reminiscent of indie art games, embracing the cartoonish rainbow spectrum taken from the psychedelic origins. This is balanced out with a more mature-oriented setting focused on gaining street cred while undertaking challenges.

The plot that compels our heroes to do battle against a villainous virus threatening the arcade games is designed to evoke the nostalgia from classic 90s arcade vibes. The Arcadegeddon setting is perfect for both solo and multiplayer groups of up to 4 players, boasting "a mix of PVE and PVP experiences that allows for all different speeds of play." Additional features for the finished game also include multiple biomes and boss modes, tying into the conceptual mini-games that evoke the titular arcade style and story.

Arcadegeddon's blend of gaming tropes with a modern spin is comfortably designed for fans of retro gaming and the arcade world. Therefore, the enticing price and long-term visible development means Arcadegeddon could become a niche hit. Furthermore, gamers who have purchased the Early Access build already will not need to pay any additional fees to play Arcadegeddon; those who pre-own the game will have their versions upgraded automatically and for free.

The wacky charm of IllFonic's release can be fully realized on July 5, with the long-awaited promises of world building content being added to the completed game. In addition, IllFonic has announced a simultaneous physical release for the PS5 and PS4. Arcadegeddon is lined up for positive reception from the many eager players awaiting the 1.0 release
