Nintendo intends to have a very busy 2022. Just when fans thought late 2022 would already be packed thanks to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's sequel and other far-off titles like Bayonetta 3, Nintendo and Game Freak announced Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to kick off a new generation for the RPG series. It's clear Nintendo intends to put as much content on Switch as possible this year. However, it's worth nothing that fans don't have to wait until the end of the year to get major new games. On the contrary, upcoming months like April are stacked with some significant content.

In spite of everything that will release for Nintendo Switch in summer and beyond, April will expand its library significantly thanks to some unique new titles, as well as some ports of previous releases. What's more, April will feature a notable update for Metroid Dread, and it could very well contain announcements for more content. Even though there's a lot of 2022 left to go, April looks like it will offer a significant wave of content for the Switch to tide fans over until other major games start to release.

April 2022 Releases for the Switch

Nintendo Switch Sports will undoubtedly be a defining game for the Switch in April. Wii Sports may have been lost to time, but Nintendo is bringing the franchise back in the form of Nintendo Switch Sports, which should get nostalgic Wii owners excited. Beyond Switch Sports, April's list of new Nintendo Switch games includes LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Traveller's Tales' ambitious new installation in the LEGO Star Wars franchise. Sports fans will also finally get their hands on MLB The Show 2022 in April.

Outside these releases, the Switch's April 2022 is defined largely by ports and remasters. Atlus will bring 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim to the Switch in mid-April, giving strategy fans another game to sink their teeth into once they're finished with Triangle Strategy. April contains a few surprising but exciting remasters, such as Aspyr and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, as well as Square Enix's Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. Both of these classic titles are welcome additions to the Switch library. On top of all this, horror fans can look forward to playing The House of the Dead: Remake and Zombie Army 4: Dead War.

Potential Switch Surprises in April

Metroid Dread

Switch users will get another free update to Metroid Dread in April, which introduces a Boss Rush mode to test players' skills against their greatest adversaries. Beyond that, Switch users should watch April carefully because of its potential for surprises. A leaker recently suggested that April 2022 will feature some surprising Pokemon announcements, and although Game Freak has already revealed Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it could still discuss the franchise in April. There could very well be another Nintendo Direct discussing Scarlet and Violet details, as well as any further Pokemon Legends: Arceus updates.

In general, April would be a great time to get a new Nintendo Direct. By then, several of Nintendo's early 2022 games will have already arrived, meaning Nintendo can start discussing summer releases with more details about Splatoon 3, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, and so on. In spite of all the Switch content that's already on the way, Switch fans should be prepared for a very busy month. Hopefully Nintendo goes into more depth about its long list of upcoming games in April, even if Switch fans already have so many games from so many different developers to look forward to.
