From Disney Plus to Crunchyroll, the PS5 has many of the most popular entertainment apps ready for download. While the PS5's only offered music app currently is Spotify, a new image suggests another large streaming service could be coming to the console.

One of the most innovative features of modern game consoles is the ability to have other applications running in the background while playing a game. A common example of this is playing music through Spotify while gaming on the PS5, with intuitive controls that are accessible directly from the PS5's Control Center. Currently, Spotify is the only currently available music streaming platform on PS5, though there are a litany of other services out there like Apple Music, Tidal, and Pandora Radio. The PS5 lacked many entertainment apps at launch, gaining the console and Sony some backlash, though it has been gradually adding more since.

A new image uploaded to the Apple Music subreddit suggests the service is on its way to PS5. The image uploaded by HOLYWARS1990 is a picture of their screen displaying the Music tab of the PS5's Control Center, it displaying the prompt, "To start streaming music, select an app." Below the prompt is not just a Spotify option, but also one for Apple Music, showing the simple white and red music note icon, and an option for the app to be downloaded. "Since when was this a thing?" HOLYWARS1990 exclaims in the post's title.

HOLYWARS1990 asks a good question—did this actually happen and when? In the past, Apple has collaborated with Sony on making some of its services available on its platforms. For example, Apple's TV and movie steaming service Apple TV+ is available for download on PS5, and earlier this year, PS5 users could get 6 months of Apple TV+ for free. People replying to the image seem equally as confused and excited as HOLYWARS1990 about this development, asking them how they got the app to appear and hoping for it to be true.

While bringing Apple Music to PS5 seems like a wise business decision for Sony, and is plausible considering the recent promotions it has done with Apple, it truthfully still doesn't seem very real. Since the PS4, Spotify has been the go-to music streaming service for PlayStation, going so far as to brand it "PlayStation Music" on the PS4, and putting a Spotify button the PS5 Media Remote. It seems unlikely that with such a close relationship to Spotify that Sony would just suddenly on Apple Music, though crazier things have happened before. Regardless, the PS5 can always use more entertainment apps, and Apple Music is clearly one wanted by many people.
