Games and MacOS typically don’t mix together all that well, though the new Mac Pro announced by Apple earlier today at their WWDC event would likely have enough horsepower to play even though best-looking new games. While the desktop is beefy, it also comes with a bottom line price tag of $6,000 with a 6K monitor sold separately for $4,999, which is quite a bit of money to spend on a computer. As if spending $11,000 on a desktop and monitor wasn't enough, there's still one other key accessory customers will likely want, and it comes at a hefty price tag.

The accessory in question is the stand for the desktop’s monitor, which clocks in at the absurd price of $999, or roughly 3 iPads that were accidentally locked for 48 years,  and it isn't included with the monitor. Needless to say,  that’s an insane price for something that could realistically be achieved by stacking several books on top of each other. Apple has always had a reputation for selling its devices at steep price points, but customers could almost build an entire gaming desktop for the same price, or even a PS4 Pro with a respectable 4K TV to go along with it.

It is worth noting that the devices are directed at creative professionals - people who need the power for their jobs and are willing to shell out large amounts of money to get exactly that. Of course, this still doesn't make the idea of a $1,000 monitor stand seem any less ridiculous, and Apple will likely have to do quite a bit of sweet talking to convince the majority of people of the mount's apparent value. There is also a standard VESA mount for $199, which is still steep, but almost nothing in comparison to the alternative. Odds are Apple is just looking to raise money to pay off the teen suing them for $1 billion.

Apple Mac Pro Stand

While the Mac Pro likely won't be used by many for gaming, Apple did announce the Arcade gaming service for IOS, which shows that the company is at least somewhat interested in exploring games a bit more seriously. How that service will pan out, and what it means for the future of Apple as an entertainment company, remains to be seen, but fans will at least have an overpriced monitor stand to focus on for the time being.
