Apple Keynote WWDC 2010 Liveblog (Updated)

Apple's highly-anticipated WWDC 2010 keynote begins at 1pm EST. We'll be bringing you highlights from the event which is likely to include the revealing of a new iPhone model, a more thorough explanation of Game Center, and of course Apple's first home console system - okay, so that's probably a stretch.

We’ll write-up a thorough summary of the event shortly after it concludes.

For now, here are the notable highlights as they are announced:

iPhone 4

  • All new design: "Thinnest smartphone on the planet."
  • $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB - available in black or white on June 24th (North America) with pre-orders starting on June 15th.
  • Gyroscope - 3-axis gyro (angular velocity). Pitch, roll, and yaw. Rotation around gravity.
  • 5 megapixel camera with backside illuminated sensor and 5x digital zoom.
  • Capable of HD video: 720p at 30fps. Video can be edited directly on the device using "iMovie for the iPhone." - $4.99 on the app store.
  • Front facing camera in addition to the camera on back (which now has an LED flash).
  • FaceTime - iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 video calling (over WiFi only).
  • Bigger battery: 40% more talk time - 3G talk: 7 hours. 3G browsing: 6 hours. WiFi browsing: 10 hours. Video: 10 hours. Music: 40 hours. Standby: 300 hours.
  • Retina Display - increases pixel density (provides 4x the amount of pixels) resulting in 326 pixels per inch.
  • Same 3.5" display but 960 x 640.
  • Utilizes Apple A4 chip.

  • Available on June 21st, free to all iPhone 3GS users. Free as well to iPhone 3G and iPod Touch users (with limited features).
  • Multitasking
  • Mail - unified inboxes and threading.
  • Organize apps with folders.
  • Bing search option.
  • iBooks coming to iPhone (with the same iPad enhancements). Share books across all three devices - as well as syncs place, bookmarks, and notes.

App Store

  • 225,000 apps available on App Store
  • Guitar Hero exclusive experience for the iPhone/iPod Touch: new strumming mechanic, fully customizable 3D characters - available today for $2.99.
  • Farmville for the iPhone (with push notifications) - "Farm anytime, anywhere."
  • Netflix on the iPhone coming this summer.


  • More than 2 million sold.
  • Over 8,500 native iPad apps available now.
  • iBooks update later this month: bookmarks and note-taking enhancement. Now able to read PDFs.
