If there's one thing gamers and tech enthusiasts can count on it's that Apple will announce a new iPhone every year. They've been doing so for the past 5 years, and if a recent rumor is true, they aren't planning on stopping anytime soon.

iPhone 4s owners are likely chomping at the bit for a new device — anxious to see what new features Apple has in store for this year's iteration. And we are happy to report that we know a new iPhone announcement is coming, and we might also have a date for the event.

However, according to a report from AllThingsD, Apple intends to announce the next iteration of the iPhone at a September 10th event. There has been no confirmation from Apple, but the timing makes sense considering the history of recent iPhone announcements. The iPhone 5, for example, was announced on September 12th last year.

Of course, with a new iPhone announcement comes a ton of rumors about what new features the phone might include. One area that tech analysts seem to think Apple is looking to improve is with the device's camera.

Right now, the iPhone 5 sports an 8 Megapixel lens, while many of its biggest competitors are in the teens if not higher. The Nokia Lumia 1020, for example, has a 41 Megapixel camera. We doubt Apple will go to that extreme, but a higher quality camera, or cameras, will certainly be a welcome addition.

Another big rumor surrounding the iPhone is that it will have a fingerprint sensor built into the home button for added security. Just last year, Apple snatched up AuthenTech — a company that specializes in fingerprint security —  so what better place to put their newest acquisition to work than with the iPhone.

Along with a new main-line iPhone iteration, Apple is also rumored to be working on a budget version of the iPhone that will be made from cheaper materials and will come in several different colors. Apparently, this new line of discount iPhones will carry the moniker iPhone 5C.

If Apple does announce the iPhone 5C line, that lends credence to theories that the next iPhone will be a "5s" and not a "6." Apple has created a trend with their model naming — new numbered model, followed by "Xs" model — so it makes sense that the iPhone 5s would be next.

We'll keep you posted if/when Apple confirms a date for their next iPhone announcement, along with ongoing rumors regarding their entire product line.

What do you think Apple will announce: an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 5s? Would you be interested in a discount, colored iPhone model?
