Apple has officially announced its Apple Arcade game subscription service, which will be launching later this year on iOS, MacOS, and tvOS in 150 countries. It will offer more than 100 new and exclusive mobile games that will be available to subscribers without ads.
Apple has confirmed several games that will be available with an Apple Arcade subscription. These range from major tie-ins from brands like LEGO and series like Sonic the Hedgehog and innovative games from talented indie studios. The list of confirmed games for Apple Arcade looks strong so far.
35 Hot Lava
Klei Entertainment has found huge success with games like Don't Starve, Oxygen Not Included, and tactical espionage game Invisible, Inc. It will be hoping for similar success with Hot Lava, an adventure game based on the childhood game "the floor is lava." Klei's version of the epic real-world game will put more obstacles in front of players and it looks like it could be hugely entertaining for Apple Arcade subscribers.
34 Where Cards Fall
Developed by The Game Band and Alto's Odyssey developer Snowman, Where Cards Fall is a coming of age story and puzzle game rolled into one. The puzzler tasks players with building houses of cards to traverse levels and shape and build the world. Players can build story locations and bring memories to life in this imaginative title.
33 The Pathless
Giant Squid Studios created something beautiful in deep-sea exploration game Abzu and The Pathless looks just as gorgeous. Players assume the role of a talented archer who is trying to lift a curse of darkness on the world. Along the way, players will hunt dark spirits, solve puzzles, and explore a mysterious forest. The Pathless was announced at The Game Awards 2018 for PC (as an Epic Games Store exclusive) and PS4. The game being in Apple Arcade will just mean that the only mobile platform it's on is iOS.
32 Sonic Racing
Sega is working on Team Sonic Racing for PC and consoles, however, it may also be cooking up a small-screen version too. A game called Sonic Racing (minus the word "Team") has been confirmed for Apple Arcade. Although details about the game haven't been revealed, it appears to be Team Sonic Racing but with a different name.
31 Beyond a Steel Sky
Beyond a Steel Sky is a sequel to the 1994 adventure game, Beneath a Steel Sky. Revolution Games is bringing the series into the 21st century with 3D environments, camera controls, and a comic-book graphics style. Protagonist Robert Foster is returning and players will navigate the thorny issue of data and AI in society.
30 LEGO Brawls
There have been lots of LEGO video games, from LEGO DC Super-Villains to LEGO City: Undercover. LEGO Brawls looks to be another game based on the plastic building blocks. Gameplay footage hasn't been revealed, but the official description for the game confirms that it will be a multiplayer fighting game with building gameplay and teamwork. It sounds a bit like a LEGO battle royale game.
29 Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm
Hotly anticipated adventure game Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm has been in development for several years now and fans are glad that it will be making its debut on Apple Arcade later this year. Playing as a young knight, Apple Arcade subscribers will travel far and wide, accompanied by a couple of allies, as they try to defeat a dark army. There will be looting and puzzles too.
28 Projection: First Light
Projection: First Light is an unusual game about shadow puppets. Along the way, players will manipulate light as well as learn about the history of shadow puppets all over the world. It will also teach players about respect and understanding, making this Apple Arcade game as educational as it is entertaining.
27 Enter the Construct
Not a lot is known about Enter the Construct, which is being made by Directive Games Limited. However, the studio is known for its online multiplayer games and it seems likely that its Apple Arcade title will offer that sort of gameplay too.
Already confirmed for PC, survival game Overland is one of the most high profile games confirmed for Apple Arcade. In it, players will roam around North American in a van, battling with creatures, rescuing survivors, scavenging for supplies and making difficult decisions.
Fantasian is the next game from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and the team at Mistwalker Games. The JRPG is a difficult one to put together for the development team as each of its environments are made in real life before being added to the game. Hopefully, their efforts won't be in vain as plenty of people will get to see it as part of Apple Arcade.
Little is known about Lifelike, the game from Kunabi Brother, apart from the fact that it looks gorgeous. GIFs of the game show dazzling blue landscapes with a fish-like creature moving with incredible grace. It's unclear what Apple Arcade subscribers will be doing in the game, but they'll be happy to find out.
23 Little Orpheus
Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture studio The Chinese Room has confirmed that Little Orpheus is its next project. So far, all that's been revealed is an image of a spaceship blueprint and the following description: "In 1962, NASA were trying to put a man on the moon. In a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut was heading in the opposite direction…”
22 The Artful Escape
Announced at E3 2017, The Artful Escape is a colorful platformer about a character called Francis Vendetti. Held back by the legacy of his musical legend uncle, Francis goes on a wild adventure before his first gig in an effort to discover his identity and find a way to stand up. Expect a brilliant soundtrack and lots of puzzles.
21 ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree
In Norse-inspired game ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree the protectors of the tree have been wiped out and protagonist Estra is the only one left. She'll go on an adventure to find out more about the odd memories she has, solve ancient puzzles, defeat enemies, and take on quests all over Midgard.
20 Box Project
Box Project has been confirmed for Apple Arcade but just about nothing is known about the game apart from the name. More details will be revealed before Apple Arcade launches later this year.
19 Frogger in Toy Town
Frogger has been around since 1981 but Frogger in Toy Town gives the popular game series a new look. With colorful, 3D graphics, Frogger in Toy Town looks great, although not much is known about it. Hopefully, Konami will share more soon.
18 Mr. Turtle
There are few details about Mr. Turtle, other than the name. It sounds delightful and few Apple Arcade subscribers would turn their nose up at a bumbling, turtle protagonist, if that turns out to be the case.
17 Sayonara Wild Hearts
Another already-announced game confirmed for Apple Arcade is Sayonara Wild Hearts. The game features a neon world, laser battles, motorcycles going incredibly fast, a whole lot of great music. It also has a story about a woman whose heart has broken and it has upset the balance of the universe, so Apple Arcade subscribers will be in for an eclectic ride with this one.
16 Winding Worlds
We’re proud and excited to announce our new game!— KO_OP (@KOOPMode) March 25, 2019
🌀 Winding Worlds 🌀
Jump in. Make friends. Change worlds.
A colourful and dreamy puzzle-adventure about exploration, friendship, and acceptance.
Coming soon exclusively to Apple Arcade@AppStoreGames pic.twitter.com/8voUjEx02R
KO_OP is the studio behind GNOG, so there is a lot of interest in Winding Worlds, its game for Apple Arcade, although there isn't a lot of information to go on yet. The wallpaper image for the game does look pleasant and the characters are all shaped like friends.
🎉 It's official! We're excited to finally share the news that our new game, Repair, will be available to play exclusively on Apple Arcade! We're hard at work, and we can't wait to show you more later this year. Stay tuned! @AppStoreGames #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/mjmOS9ci9T— ustwo games (@ustwogames) March 25, 2019
Another Apple Arcade game with a vague wallpaper image is Repair, from ustwo games. The image features a watercolor style and a woman who looks shocked at something. There's little to infer from that, but we're intrigued.
14 Shantae 5
WayForward Technologies has confirmed that Shantae 5 will be coming to Apple Arcade later this year. The next entry in the long-running platformer series will also be coming to PC and consoles.
13 No Way Home
All that developer SMG Studio has shown off about No Way Home so far is an image of some characters watching a spaceship soar across the sky. If the game will let players travel across the galaxy and befriend the aliens in the image, then that's enough for many prospective Apple Arcade subscribers to take notice.
Hitchhiker has been around for a while, debuting as a Humble Original back in January 2018. Apple Arcade subscribers will still want to check it out, however, trying to piece together clues and untangle the life of a hitchhiker who has lost his memory. The game promises twists and turns too.
In Cardpocalypse, the card game Mega Mutant Power Pets is all fun and games until the game's monsters start showing up and kidnapping your friends. As MMPP player, the 10-year-old Jesse, you'll have to defeat these mutant pets with games of cards and get back your friends.
10 The Bradwell Conspiracy
Another Apple Arcade game full of mystery is The Bradwell Conspiracy, where you are the survivor of an explosion. You'll have to work with another survivor (named Amber) to escape, trying to figure out how to escape by using a pair of AR glasses.
Yaga is another game that has already been released on PC and consoles, but makes its mobile debut with Apple Arcade. The action RPG puts players as a one-handed blacksmith with bad luck. You'll trade, talk to NPCs, make difficult decisions, and craft and upgrade weapons. This is all traditional RPG gameplay, but the shifting narrative that changes based on your decisions is a brilliant concept.
8 Down in Bermuda
There aren't many details about Down In Bermuda, the Apple Arcade game from Yak and Co. However, the art for the game features an explorer looking at a deserted island. There's also a duck in the hat, which suggests that you'll have at least one friend joining you on your Bermudan adventure.
7 UFO on Tape: First Contact
Not a lot is known about UFO on Tape: First Contact but the name is a giveaway. It will probably be a sci-fi game that features at least one flying saucer, which is enough for some to get excited.
6 Doomsday Vault
While the name will make some think of Bethesda's Fallout RPGs, Doomsday Vault probably won't feature any (or many) human characters. The image shared by developer Flightless shows a small robot-like character looking at some tall buildings, but there are no other details to go on other than that.
5 Kings of the Castle
Developer Frosty Pop hasn't shared much information about its Apple Arcade game, Kings of the Castle. However, it does look hilarious. The artwork for the game shows buildings with wild expressions and the trees and plants around it look quite surprised too. What this all means has yet to be revealed.
4 Sneaky Sasquatch
You may have caught a quick glimpse of a Sasquatch driving around a golf cart during the #AppleEvent - that's one of our new games, Sneaky Sasquatch! Coming out later this year on Apple Arcade! pic.twitter.com/uFPT2x3oYn— RAC7 (@RAC7Games) March 25, 2019
Sasquatches aren't usually thought of as being sneaky, but Sneaky Sasquatch, the Apple Arcade game from rac7, may just prove everyone wrong. It features a sasquatch driving a golf cart and (presumably) trying to keep a lid on its identity, which is a concept that sounds a bit like Octodad, but hairier.
Apple Arcade is coming, and with it... Spidersaurs! Experience over-the-top, explosive action from the team that brought you Contra 4! Spidersaurs will be available to play exclusively on Apple Arcade later this year. Learn more about Apple Arcade at https://t.co/k4xFn0G5ZY pic.twitter.com/0dAfg2XjJO— WayForward (@WayForward) March 25, 2019
Shantae 5 developer WayForward is working on another game for Apple Arcade, called Spidersaurs. The artwork for the game shows two characters blasting a dinosaur with eight, spider-y legs. It could be a co-op shooter where you blast enemies and potentially collect lots of loot, but we'll wait for WayForward to confirm.
It’s official: our new game, Monomals, will be available to play exclusively on Apple Arcade! We can’t wait to tell you more about it. #AppleEvent Color us excited! @AppStoreGames pic.twitter.com/7PWBG8VzO9— PICOMY (@picomy) March 25, 2019
Monomals is a bit like a mashup of Pokemon, music, and the ocean. In this Apple Arcade game, players will catch Monomals by blasting tunes into the ocean. Social features have been confirmed too, as Monomals players will be able to create music and share their tunes with their friends.
1 LEGO Arthouse
The second LEGO game on this list is LEGO Arthouse. There's no word on what LEGO Arthouse will offer, but the name does suggest that it will allow LEGO players to be more creative than in other LEGO tie-in video games.
Apple Arcacde launches in fall 2019 on iOS, MacOS, and tvOS.
