Amazon is offering a steep discount on Apple's second-generation AirPods Pro for Black Friday. AirPods continue to be one of the most popular gifts for the holiday season. Those hunting for discounts know that the second generation of AirPods, released in 2019, is going to be a great price with third-generation AirPods now on the market. Amazon is delivering on that expectation, offering 2nd-gen AirPods Pro for $199.99. That's $50 less than full price.

The second generation of AirPods Pro have a number of major feature improvements. Audio quality is obviously at the forefront, with the AirPods Pro 2nd generation featuring Apple's custom H2 chip with high notes and deep bass. The second-gen earbuds also added four pairs of silicon tips, helping users create a more custom fit for their ears. Suffice it to say, these AirPods Pro were a dramatic step forward.

Some may question why it's worth purchasing the second-generation AirPods Pro versus the third-generation of standard AirPods. The key differences are with regard to quality and usability. The AirPods Pro features both silicon fittings for customization, and IPX4-rated water resistance, which the third-generation AirPods do not. It's also a matter of capability, though, as the AirPods Pro feature Apple's H2 chip while the third-generation AirPods feature an H1. The AirPods Pro remains some of Apple's cutting-edge earbuds.

It's unclear how long Amazon's discount on the second-generation AirPods Pro will remain live. The discount isn't referenced as an official Black Friday deal but is likely just for the holiday nonetheless. Those interested in a new pair of earbuds may not want to wait and see if the AirPods Pro $50 discount will last. The $199 Black Friday price may be the best discount for the AirPods Pro available.
