Apex Legends fans are excitedly awaiting the launch of the battle royale's Season 9 that is coming May 4. Ahead of its launch Respawn Entertainment has released the details of Apex Legends' upcoming new legend, Valkyrie.

Apex Legends' Season 9 update is also exciting for its upcoming new Arenas mode that aims to take the title "beyond battle royale" by introducing 3v3 elimination matches. However, a new legend is always a big addition to Apex Legends as the new set of abilities that can drastically change how players approach the map and encounters during matches.

Valkyrie also strengthens Apex Legends' connection to Titanfall 2, as she is the daughter of Viper, a character from that game. In fact, Valkyrie even uses parts of Viper's Northstar Titan that she salvaged to perform her various abilities. She is part of the Recon class, like Pathfinder, which means that she can scan survey beacons across the map to reveal the next circle's location for her squad. Her passive ability concerns her VTOL Jets that allow her to jetpack to high places using a limited supply of fuel. Her tactical ability is called Missile Swarm that sees Valkyrie firing a swarm of missiles that damage and disorient enemies. Her ultimate is called Skyward Dive, which jumps Valkyrie and her square back into the air to sky-dive back into the map.

Valkyrie's abilities seem very powerful, so powerful in fact that the developers of Apex Legends have even stated that they are worried the legend may be too strong. Her VTOL Jets are a definite game-changer that gives the legend a lot of mobility to reposition around enemy squads or run away from encounters that don't go poorly. Her Missile Swarm also seems powerful, as its damage and disorientation are both very powerful when combined with her VTOL Jets that allow Valkyrie to get a good angle on enemy squads. Her ultimate also seems like it will be one to reckon with as it can move the player's squad really far across the map to either get in some last-minute looting before a new circle or to get the jump on an enemy squad.

All in all, the newest season of Apex Legends stands to reshape the battle royale. The addition of Valkyrie, the new Arenas mode, Apex Legends' new bow weapon, and the various balance tweaks will radically change the title for players. The season looks to be a great time for returning players to jump in and see what is all different in Apex Legends as well as being a solid opportunity for new players to squad up and see what all the fuss is about.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
