Speed is key in a fast-paced battle royale like Apex Legends, where supremacy in a match is usually given to the team who can outpace and outgun their opponents the fastest. Wraith has the perfect toolkit for this, as her ability to tear through the space-time continuum and teleport in different locations allows her to ambush enemies and kill them before they even retaliate.

However, Wraith’s fast-paced toolkit has a steep skill ceiling, especially when her movement becomes so methodical that enemy squads predict where she’ll arrive. Players who want to excel as Wraith need her to be just as unpredictable and just as fast, ensuring no one is able to anticipate where she’ll be arriving and strike a counter-attack. Here's how Wraith can capitalize on her toolkit in Apex Legends.

Wraith: Interdimensional Skirmisher

Wraith being experimented upon

In the Apex Games, Wraith is a fighter wielding the power to tear apart the fabric of reality to transport herself to different locations. However, behind her expertise in battle is a timid girl once afraid of the voices in her head. The only thing that kept her going was when another “version” of herself told her to “listen” to her voices, helping her outwit and outlast her opponents. Unfortunately, these are all Wraith had, as most of her memories were lost.

Wraith’s most recent discovery was that she was a science pilot named Renee Blasey who volunteered to participate in experiments that explored the space-time continuum - experiments she herself devised. The only reason Wraith joined the Apex Games was that most of them take place in abandoned IMC bases, some of which appear to hold clues about her missing memories.

Why Play Wraith: A Mobile Teleporting Scout

Wraith and a Mirage in combat-1

Imagine being able to sneak up on opponents without them being the wiser. This skill can be an invaluable asset in battle royales. Wraith can accomplish this task and end with enemies meeting the business end of the game's most powerful weapons. Players interested in a fast-paced, stealthy playstyle might want to consider using Wraith for her innate advantage in mobility. Wraith has a lot to offer players who wish to use an Apex Legend who can tear through the fabric of spacetime.

  • Useful audio cues: Thanks to Wraith’s Voices From The Void (Passive), she can literally hear voices that give useful hints. She gets clues whether she’s being aimed at, if a lot of people died in an area, and if there are traps nearby. This allows aggressive players to adapt to combat situations without paying too much attention.
  • Catch enemies by surprise: It’s awesome to imagine replicating anime fights where the protagonist avoids an attack and reappears behind an enemy. Wraith can do this thanks to Into The Void (Tactical), which allows her to vanish into thin air as she repositions herself wherever she wants.
  • Create connecting points in the map: With Dimensional Rift (Ultimate), Wraith can connect two long-distance points in any map almost instantaneously. While there’s a particular distance at which she can do this, the convenience of being able to travel between two points can mean the difference between life and death.

The Basics Of Wraith: Teleportation Secures Advantage

Wraith vanishing in battle

Unlike other characters, Wraith’s mobility lies not necessarily in being “faster” than others, but in her ability to outwit everyone through teleportation across every Apex Legends map. Not being visible when teleporting gives her a keen edge in catching enemies by surprise, making her skillset optimal for players who love fast skirmishes. Those interested in her toolkit might want to check out the following skills: Her toolkit includes:

  • Voices From The Void (Passive): The voices in Wraith’s head send warnings about various details, such as being in an enemy’s line of sight or if she’s being aimed at.
  • Into The Void (Tactical): Wraith can phase through spacetime and travel a particular distance without being seen.
  • Dimensional Rift (Ultimate): Wraith can travel to two locations and create a rift in spacetime, giving her and teammates near-instantaneous two-way travel.

Wraith's Toolkit

Passive: Voices From The Void

Wraith and her arsenal

One of Wraith’s defining characteristics is her fear of her own mental stability. It’s only thanks to her other self that she realizes what these voices are: other versions of herself from different realities. Now confident that even her own selves are protecting her, Wraith uses Voices From The Void (Passive) to get advanced information on things happening in her surroundings before releasing her weapon combo. Here’s how it works.

  • Properties: Wraith can “hear” audio warnings, such as enemies and snipers aiming at her, nearby traps, and if there are a lot of enemies nearby. She can share this information to teammates.
  • Check the implications of certain warnings: Due to the specific cues of Voices From The Void, players can identify certain environmental elements around them depending on the warning given. For instance, Perimeter Security (Wattson) and Nox Gas Traps (Caustic) often trigger the “Traps” warning. Meanwhile, even a sniper looking at a player through a window can activate the “Sniper” warning.
  • Maximize this ability in the open: Thanks to this ability, Wraith can confidently explore open areas provided she’s near cover. This Passive will warn her before ambushes even happen, allowing her to retreat or find a safe zone before engaging in a firefight.

Tactical: Into The Void

Tactical - Into The Void

Perhaps one of the most unique Apex Legends Tactical skill, Into The Void (Tactical) allows Wraith to “phase” into a dimensional rift and do a quick reposition. She avoids all damage this way, leaving only a trail to indicate she still exists. Here are unique aspects of her ability players should consider:

  • Properties: This skill has a 25-second cooldown and a 4-second duration. Extra animations involving this ability happen throughout 1.25 seconds: a “focusing” animation for the first second, and then the “reality check” for the next 0.25 seconds. In the void, players become invisible and gain a 30% speed boost, but can't interact with anything except ziplines.
  • Careful repositioning: Since this ability has a delay in both its starting animation and concluding animation, Wraith can be left extremely vulnerable if she reappears in the wrong location. Make sure this ability is activated before Wraith reaches a location of a firefight, or that she is well-hidden before activating this ability.
  • Special interactions: Wraith’s intricate Tactical interacts with the environment in different ways. For instance, Tracker (Bloodhound) won’t be able to detect Wraith, but still leaves clues for Bloodhounds to see. Likewise, Silence (Revenant) will stop this ability from triggering. Meanwhile, weapons with Level 4 Extended Mags still automatically reload when using Into The Void. During this skill’s activation animation, climbing a wall and entering a Dimensional Rift stops the rest of the ability.

Ultimate: Dimensional Rift

Ultimate - Dimensional Rift-1

Considered by many as the Ultimate skill that placed Wraith among the best of the best of the game’s Skirmishers, Dimensional Rift (Ultimate) lets Wraith access a tear in the space-time continuum and connect two locations in the map. Anyone entering either of these two points are quickly transferred to the other end. Here are some things to consider:

  • Properties: This Ultimate has a 3.5-minute cooldown, with the portal itself having a 45-second duration. When activated, Wraith can run up to 152 meters and mark an endpoint, creating two portals. Wraith gets a 22% speed boost upon the ability’s activation, increasing to 39% and then 57% as the skill ends. Like Into The Void, Wraith can’t use weapons or make interactions when using this ability. When accessed, players travel between the portal points at 5 times the usual speed.
  • Consider kidnapping the enemy: Wraith can sneak up on an enemy and end the portal on top of an opponent. This forces them to get to the other end of the rift temporarily, allowing Wraith’s team to eliminate them.
  • Glaring Ring vulnerability: Thanks to this ability, Wraith from inside the Ring can give her team a quick exit to a safe zone. Players need to be careful, however, as the portals close within four ticks (4.5-6 seconds) if both ends were placed inside the Ring.

Wraith Gameplay: Teleportation Provides Both Speed And Offense

Wraith performing a Finisher-1

Wraith and her speed-oriented gameplay require players to be on top of their game at all times, especially when she’s expected to be capable of even outwitting enemies in the middle of combat. She works best when surprising opponent teams with a sudden teleport or even a backstab ambush, but a Wraith player maximizing her toolkit can ensure her skills become viable even in the thick of battle. Here are some gameplay tips when using Wraith to her full potential.

  • Audio cues for adaptability: Players should react as soon as Wraith’s Passive gives her audio hints. For instance, players should know where the nearest safe zone is when sights are homing in on her, or have some idea where to look for opponents when she enters a potential hot spot. That way, players are almost always never caught surprised.
  • Unpredictability is key with teleportation: Since Into The Void (Tactical) leaves a trail that indicates where Wraith is, enemies who know how to spot these indicators can predict Wraith’s next location. To avoid this, use the teleportation Tactical in unpredictable ways, such as behind obstacles or even prior to engaging foes.
  • Dimensional Rift isn’t always safe: While Dimensional Rift (Ultimate) is always useful to lead players to safety or towards opponents, it can become an offensive tool as well. Dimensional Rifts can lead straight into ambushes, or even inside the Ring where enemies may die upon crossing simply because they’re hungry for a Wraith kill.

Skirmisher Class: Care Package Stealth Access

Wraith advancing in combat

As the resident teleporter in any Apex Legends team, Wraith has access to some of the best navigational abilities in the game. Her ability to phase in and out of enemy sights makes her the best Legend to pull a fast one of enemies rushing for a Care Package. She can open and steal its contents and leave even before they catch her. Now that she is reclassified as a Skirmisher Class, Wraith now has the opportunity to decide if it’s worth pursuing a Care Package or not given this perk:

  • See the value of a Care Package: When Wraith spots a Care Package, she can see the highest-valued item inside it. Thanks to this perk, she can decide whether it’s worth pursuing the said Care Package.

Wraith and a weapon

Being a teleporter makes Wraith the perfect surprise attacker, allowing her to eliminate characters with the simplest of pistols. Players who want to capitalize on Wraith’s speed and area access potential should use weapons that allow her to attack enemies as fast as possible while giving her enough room to retreat.

  • EVA-8 Auto (Shotgun): Since Wraith almost always ends up in the thick of battle, her skirmishing capabilities work well with a reliable close-ranged weapon. With the EVA-8 Auto, Wraith consistently fire her shotgun shells without having to repeatedly pull the trigger, giving players time to plan her moves in the heat of the moment.
  • R-99 (SMG, Light Ammo): While one might say the R-301 Carbine is a more stable weapon, the R-99 is the more easily found gun throughout the game. Its short-to-medium range allows Wraith to engage enemies at longer distances but close enough to outpace them in short-ranged combat.
  • Wingman (Sniper): Previously assigned as a Heavy Ammo, the Wingman earns the distinction of being the only pistol-looking weapon that is just as proficient as a sniper rifle. This transforms Wraith into an assassin at long range, capable of making pinpoint shots against enemies and running away as soon as enemies try to pursue her.

Apex Legends is playable on the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
