With every new season in Apex Legends comes a new playable legend. In Season 9: Legacy, Respawn added Valkyrie, an aerial legend and the daughter of the Titanfall 2 boss Viper. Valkyrie's connection to Titanfall 2 stirred up fans who expected the new legend to be a pilot herself.

Valkyrie did not end up being a pilot, but her abilities are reminiscent of the Northstar Titan from Titanfall 2. Her passive allows her to fly short distances, and her tactical sprays targeted rockets on the ground. While she can't wall run like a pilot, Valkyrie is still one of the most evasive legends in Apex Legends, and her skill ceiling is just as high as her command of the skies.

7 Use Her Ultimate As A Scan

Valkyrie's ultimate ability, Skyward Dive, allows the player and their teammates to group up and launch upwards to then dive down to the ground. It's great for getting out of unwinnable fights or for simple repositioning, but the ability comes with an added bonus as well. It scans for nearby enemies and displays their location to teammates, just like a Bloodhound scan.

While it's a fantastic ultimate for getting out of a tricky spot, it's even better when used aggressively. If players happen across a few squads fighting in the distance, they can Skyward Dive with their teammates towards them and get the location of every enemy in the area. It provides perfect information for a clean third-party squad kill.

6 Bend Missiles Around Obstacles

Many consider Valkyrie's tactical ability, Missile Swarm, to be a better version of Fuse's tactical ability. Most players who are using Valkyrie for the first time don't realize that holding down Q delays the attack so that it doesn't launch immediately. Doing this makes for some pretty interesting play opportunities.

The missiles travel relatively slowly, but always veer towards the target indicated by the player. If Valkyrie goes behind cover immediately upon firing her Missile Swarm, the missiles will still curve and hit their intended target. The same goes for a Valkyrie about to jetpack backward behind a wall. Set up the target spots with Q, aim upwards while falling behind cover, and release Q to launch the missiles over the wall.

5 Double Tap Jump To Evade Without Taking Off

Being an evasive legend has a lot of upsides. Octane and Pathfinder are unmatched in fast-paced repositioning, while Horizon and Wraith are great for catching enemies unaware. Meanwhile, Valkyrie is one of the few legends whose evasiveness translates to what is effectively a dodge roll (without the invincibility frames, of course).

If the player has an idea of where shots are going to come from, they can react quickly by jumping, and then pressing the jump button again to boost-evade out of a tough spot. Don't hold down jump, or Valkyrie start flying. Just boost her in a direction, nothing more.

4 Push Enemies In Arenas Faster Than Other Legends

Valkyrie is one of the best legends for quick pushing strategies in the new Season 9 game mode in Apex Legends, Arenas. Valkyrie can soar above buildings that others have to navigate through. This makes her a number one choice for players looking to get the edge quickly in a round.

Valkyrie travels a little bit faster while flying, especially diagonally. This is extremely useful for getting into sneaky spots the enemy doesn't see coming. When going up against a Valkyrie, players should pay attention to where they can hear her VTOL Jets coming from. It might just save them from being flanked in the first 15 seconds of the game.

3 Hold Jump While Flying In Medium Bursts To Fly Longer

Valkyrie's passive ability to use her jetpack for short distances makes her a great legend for navigating the complex landscape, like the cities in World's Edge or the Grow Towers on Olympus. Her passive ability is amplified when the player uses the jetpack in medium bursts, as it lets her travel considerably further while using less charge.

Short bursts tend to reduce Valkyrie's overall speed in the air, making it easier for enemies to shoot her. Holding down the jump button, though, makes the bar deplete very quickly, making for a fast but short trip. The best way to get distance with the jetpacks is to use about a quarter to a fifth of the bar for each burst.

2 Watch For Enemy Squads In The Initial Drop

One passive ability unique to Valkyrie (and hardly mentioned in promotional material) is her ability to scan the environment while diving. When it comes to planning a perfect drop, Valkyrie's screen overlay provides information on enemy locations in the nearby area.

A lot of what Valkyrie brings to the table isn't in mobility or damage, but in the information game. Since her ultimate also scans enemies while diving, she's one of the best champions for both hot drops and stealthy approaches.

1 Her Special Hadouken/Kamehameha Animation

Some legends in Apex Legends have a special animation that activates in specific circumstances. Mirage will spin a needle, while Wraith gives an "OK" sign with her hand. Now, Valkyrie has a fun, random animation to call her own as well.

When jetpacking backward (and possibly side to side, according to some accounts) Valkyrie has a chance to hold both of her hands out in front of her like a Street Fighter Hadouken, or a Dragon Ball Kamehameha. Valkyrie is of Japanese descent, making this pose a possible reference to her heritage.
