Apex Legends is a smash hit, having passed 25 million players faster than Fortnite did, and enjoying continued success. It's clear that Respawn plans to aggressively support it, though it's kept much of its future plans a secret. However, dataminers have dug through the in-game files to find hints about what the future may hold for Apex Legends, and as it turns out, it may one day get something called Survival Mode.

Survival Mode appears to be a game mode where players will kill bots in front of a spectating crowd. The crowd will consist of NPCs that will emote in reaction to various events, like cheering whenever the player is doing well, for example. Survival Mode will also feature commentators that will help call the action.

It's important to stress that Survival Mode hasn't actually been confirmed by Respawn. So even though evidence of it has been found in the Apex Legends' files, it's far from a guarantee that it will ever actually be added to the game. Having said that, it sounds like it will be a horde mode or something along those lines, which will be fairly unique for a battle royale game.

If Apex Legends' supposed Survival Mode does give players the chance to fight against bots, it will be interesting to see if they're more generic baddies or similar to the playable Legends. If it's the latter, then the Survival Mode seems like it would be a good way for players to practice and up their game in the standard battle royale mode.

And if Survival Mode is a horde mode like speculated, it seems likely that it would offer co-op of some kind. After all, Apex Legends is a game built entirely around coordinating with teammates, so if Survival Mode releases without a co-op option, it would be a missed opportunity.

Before Apex Legends fans need to worry about the specifics of Survival Mode, they should wait for Respawn to announce it first. Assuming Respawn still plans on adding Survival Mode to Apex Legends, more information should come to light in the coming weeks.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
