Respawn Entertainment made a huge announcement for the future of Apex Legends at the EA Play event. Respawn confirmed that Apex Legends would be getting cross-play, and will be coming to Nintendo Switch and the Steam store. As a welcome gift from Steam, Apex Legends cosmetics will be released as Steam exclusives.

Apex Legends is gearing up for a Steam release in the fall, but no exact release date has been announced yet. When it does release, players will be able to grab five weapon charms based on some of the best Valve games. Steam is Valve's digital game store, so it makes sense that the weapon charms allude to various Valve titles. The Valve potato is featured as a weapon charm, as well as one that features Octane and Wattson.

The Valve potato charm was previously leaked, but the Octane and Wattson charms have recently been leaked. The Octane charm features the character with a headcrab from Half-Life completely covering his head, while the much cuter Wattson charm is a very smiley Wattson holding a heart cube from the Portal franchise. According to EA, "These will all be free limited-time login rewards for our Apex Legends Steam players, so add it to your wishlist and follow us on Steam today. We'll keep you updated as we get closer to launch this fall."

As fall approaches, players will have to be on the lookout for an announcement for Apex Legends releasing on Steam in order to get the exclusive weapon charms. Although three of the charms leaked, the remaining two may also allude to other Valve games and may also feature other Apex Legends characters. Since Apex Legends Season 5 is coming to a close, the release on Steam may match up with the start of Season 6.

There seems to be a ton of exciting possibilities for Apex Legends in the near future. Season 6 should have a lot of new content including a new map and possibly a new character. Soon, players will be able to play across most consoles when Apex releases on Nintendo Switch. Although no exact release date is given, it is expected that the Nintendo Switch release and the Steam release will be at the same time as cross-play is enabled. Hopefully the stars align and players will be in for the start of Season 6 on Switch and Steam as well as earn new exclusive weapon charms and other cosmetics this fall.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Steam and Switch port coming later this year.
