Apex Legends made big waves earlier this year with its unique take on the battle royale genre. Instead of being one player against 50, teamwork was required to win the match and become the champion. While other titles like Fortnite and PUBG also have squads in their battle royales, Apex Legends leaned into this with an Overwatch-like focus on the Legends and their unique abilities.

Despite that, many players have been clamoring for a solo mode, where they can live and die based only off their own skills. Respawn has listened, and a solo mode will be added to Apex Legends, albeit for a limited time.

Solos in Apex Legends will begin August 13th and run to August 27. In this mode, teamwork is thrown out the window and it's every man, woman, and robot for themselves. These solos are a part of  Iron Crown Collection event, which in itself is part of Season 2 of Apex Legends. It's unclear if and how this mode will return in the future.

There is not much in the way of details on the solo mode itself, with just the Twitter video to go by. However, it's clear that this mode will ditch squads and pit every player against each other. Whether or not anything else will be added to this mode for balancing purposes remains to be seen.

Given that Apex Legends is balanced towards teams of three, going for a solo mode can be a strange choice. At the very least, characters that work well as a team may not survive as well individually, offering a different meta from the normal squad set-up. It may be the breath of fresh air that Apex Legends needs to stay in players' mind while other free-to-play titles are launching their own events for the end of the summer.

Solos also offer some new for veteran players to sink their teeth into for Season 2. Ranked Mode was the first new mode added to Apex Legends, but the high-level play isn't for everyone. Solos is a mode that can be enjoyed with new players and veterans alike. It can even give less skilled players a chance to learn various legends without having to worry about their teammates or dragging a group down.

Apex Legends is available to download for free on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
