Respawn Entertainment's expansive battle royale Apex Legends is heading into its tenth season of new content. Titled "Emergence," this new season comes complete with a new altered map, a new weapon, a new battle pass, and more. Ranked Arenas will also make their way to players during Emergence, which many players have been eager to dive into. Like every new season so far, Apex Legends will introduce a new Legend to the Apex Games as well.

For Emergence, Apex Legends revealed Seer as its newest Legend, a Recon-class character with a particularly moth-centric aesthetic. The newest Legend was first teased with a three-part story called "The Moth and the Flame," a folktale that focused on a blind princess that makes a pact with a moth to rescue her beloved from danger. Between lore, the character's abilities, and how he fits into the Apex Games, here is all that's known so far about Apex Legends' Seer.

Seer's Abilities

Apex Legends was one of the games shown off at EA Play Live earlier today and the game director, Chad Grenier, clued players into Seer's abilities. While he didn't reveal the official name for each of Seer's abilities, Grenier described what each of them can do. Further, Seer is similar to Bloodhound in the sense that he is a tracking-focused Legend. Unlike Bloodhound, Seer is more geared toward stealthy tracking and will have a different playstyle than Bloodhound's.

Seer's Passive gives him a heartbeat sensor, hinting him toward an enemy's location while aiming down sights. His Tactical allows him to send out drones from his chest that reveal the enemy's location. Finally, his Ultimate sends out hundreds of microdrones to create a sphere around an area. All enemies moving quickly through the sphere have their footsteps revealed and are tracked. Enemies moving slowly can avoid detection.

Now that fans are aware of Seer's official abilities in Apex Legends, some probably can't help but wonder whether the previously-leaked Pariah was a prototype of Seer or simple misdirection. There is some definite overlap when it comes to Pariah's leaked abilities and Seer's official ones. On the bright side, players can now start brainstorming ways to add Seer into their team compositions with the aim of becoming the Apex Champions.

Seer's Backstory

Though Respawn said that The Moth and the Flame was only a local in-game folktale, it would be retold so often that it became a truth, a prophecy. This prophecy was interpreted as a warning about a cursed child that would be born to a woman bearing "the mark of the moth." Seer's mother gave birth to him at an unfortunate time, during the same moment that a meteor struck the planet's nearby moon. For many people in-universe, this was proof of the curse and prophecy. However, some Respawn writers want players to question whether it could just be a coincidence. Additionally, Seer's real name is Obi Edolasim.

Previous datamining of Apex Legends pointed to a new Legend being called Pariah, which could have just been a codename for Seer. This would definitely make sense, as Seer grew up pretty much as a social pariah, with people avoiding him left and right. Even though Obi was avoided by the public, it is clear that his mother and father nurtured him and taught him. Obi's father likely helped him build his moth-like tech, or at least inspired him to do so, and his mother helped train him in movement and acrobatics.

It is clear that Seer took part in some underground fight clubs in his past, but he competed in the Arenas as well. Perhaps it was his performances in these that helped him transition to the full Apex Games. Seer's power is undeniable, and the character's "Metamorphosis" cinematic describes his gaze as being as to turn mountains to dust, kings to beggars, and oceans to deserts. Whether this is just hyperbole or meant to be true, Apex Legends' next character already seems mysterious.

Outside of the game, Respawn also confirmed a few other facts about Seer. Firstly, the character is Igbo, which is an ethnic group largely found in Nigeria, adding even more representation to the diversity of Apex. The studio also confirmed the voice behind Seer is Iké Amadi, a prolific Nigerian voice actor that has worked with almost every major game studio. Amadi has voiced characters in games like Rainbow Six: Siege, Mass Effect 3, Halo 5: Guardians, Mortal Kombat 11Final Fantasy 15, Star Wars: Squadrons, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and many more.

Seer's Purpose in the Apex Games

From his narration through the Apex Legends Emergence launch trailer, Seer seems to have an incredible amount of knowledge concerning each of the Legends competing in the Apex Games. Seer will bring some changes to the competitors in the game, and will likely reveal to other Legends the inner truths they might be trying to hide from themselves. Waxing poetic about different Legends' inner thoughts and the imminent arrival of change, Seer continues to add more mystery to the world of Apex Legends.

While players now know Seer's abilities, backstory, and what he thinks of other Legends, an Apex Legends Season 10 leak last month revealed what other Legends think of him. The leaked voice lines, confusing at the time, now make sense with the recent reveals about Seer. Wattson apparently says that his mother was a moon and his father was a moth, and Pathfinder likens Seer to a "swarm." Others, like Crypto and Caustic, openly express their disdain for how Seer operates from the shadows. Interestingly enough, a voice line from Rampart seems to indicate she is friendly with Seer.

Overall, Seer looks to be an interesting new addition to the Apex Legends roster. Due to its popularity, the world of Apex Legends is quickly expanding into multiple formats. Aside from the game's battle royale and Arenas modes, there is a deeply written universe behind the game that continues to expand with cinematics and other animated videos, like with the Seer-focused "Metamorphosis." Plus, there is also an Apex Legends comic book series being released to add even more depth to several characters. Player interest in Respawn's Apex Legends property will no doubt continue long past the upcoming release of Seer.

Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One. Emergence will launch on August 3, 2021.
