It's that time of year again where Apex Legends unleashes a new champion into the arena. The last entry was the high-flying rocket shooting Valkyrie who's perfect for ranged combat, but the new Apex Champion looks to be something closer to the cautious recon of Crypto. The Seer was recently announced for Season 10 of Apex Legends and is said to be a stealth recon character with a wide-brimmed hat, similar to Kung Lao from Mortal Kombat. In the time leading up to the Seer's reveal earlier today at EA Play, there were hints inside the map pointing at some kind of relation to moths and the ability to use subterfuge and cunning to get the better of his opponents.

Just like Crypto, Seer will have the ability to call a drone, or a swarm of them, to scout ahead and mark his enemies. This character has a clear focus on finding and marking enemies, with his Ultimate being the summation of those abilities. However, the sharply-dressed Seer isn't afraid to get his hands dirty with the best of the legends when it comes down to it. Paired with the new Rampage LMG, the Seer is set to change the dynamics inside Apex Legends once again.

Seer's Recon and Stealth Playstyle

Seeing as the last champion was more in the player's face with her strong personality and barrage of missiles, it makes sense that Seer would lean more towards the supportive recon role. Those characters are extremely important to any team and can keep their teammates from being out-flanked. The Seer's abilities focus on finding enemies and then marking them for the rest of the team to come help take care of. For instance, the Seer's passive ability gives the player a heartbeat sensor that reacts to other players when within range. This will give him a better idea of where to use his other two special abilities.

From that point, Seer has two abilities that he can use to mark the enemies for his teammates using a swarm of drones from his chest. The Seer's Tactical ability sends a swarm of moths, marking the enemies so that Seer can get in closer to finish them off. The Ultimate is a truly powerful recon ability that has a lot of potential intense moments of the match. When fully charged, the Seer is able to create a sphere around a part of the map that he chooses, and all enemy players moving inside the sphere will be marked for the team. This will likely give any charging enemy players pause before they continue the push into the player's team.

Comparing Seer to Kung Lao

Regarded as a product of a cursed prophecy, Seer is no stranger to having to fight to stay alive inside the world of Apex Legends. This prophecy, which foretold of his unique glowing eyes, might be the basis for his ability to communicate with moths or moth-like drones. It also tracks that his unique eyes would be able to give him the ability to mark and track targets that the other legends can't compete with. Being a poor outcast, Seer is most likely used to watching his back, which gives further reason for his stealth and recon powers.

Besides his hat, it seems that the Seer shares a few similarities with Kung Lao from the Mortal Kombat universe. For instance, in the lore video, it looks like Seer has some form of martial arts training from his mother, for which Lao is famous. Something lesser is likely a need for Seer to prove himself within the world, after being outcast by it from birth. There is a brief clip in the lore video that also points to Seer's capability with hand-to-hand combat in arena-type environments, also relating to the arena-fighting Kung Lao.

Every few months, Apex Legends releases a new champion who's meant to shake up the foundation of the game. While some have had varying successes, the Season 10 champion Seer looks to be an interesting and unique character outside of what fans have seen from Respawn's champions so far. The Seer could create a lot of unique recon opportunities, as long as he's properly utilized, and will likely become a new headache for the Wraith characters trying to sneak up from the rear. Fans can expect the Season 10 update complete with a new gun and champion starting on August 3rd.

Apex Legends is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
