Developer Respawn Entertainment has begun teasing what will come in Season 9 of Apex Legends, including a new flying character, some big changes to Olympus, a slew of balance adjustments, and potentially non-battle royale modes. However, one thing that won’t be added in Season 9 is another weapon, according to a reliable leaker and dataminer.

Some of the aforementioned balance changes Respawn has confirmed include a massive shake-up for all of Lifeline’s abilities, a slight nerf to Octane’s stim, and some bug fixes for Loba’s tactical. Other changes are coming for characters like Fuse and Horizon, but details on what those changes may be have not yet been revealed.

Apex Legends leaker Tobias says Season 9 will forego a new addition to the roster of weapons in a recent Twitter post. They have a reliable track record, having recently revealed Caustic’s Town Takeover before it was announced. Tobias tweeted that Season 9 will not have a new weapon, but Season 10 will. This shouldn’t come as a big surprise, as Seasons 1, 5, and 7 did not add any weapons either. Having a season of space between new weapons likely gives the developer time to watch and react to how each gun affects the meta before adding in another.

Tobias revealed earlier this week that there are currently at least three weapons in development: a compound bow, a light ammo LMG, and a grenade launcher from Titanfall called the Energy Propelled Grenade (EPG). They note that from what they can see, Season 10’s weapon is set to be the EPG. In Titanfall, the EPG launcher fires blue energy-based grenades that often result in one-hit-kills on non-Titan enemies.

The leaker adds that they wouldn’t be surprised if the compound bow ended up arriving in Season 10 instead. That would make sense given Apex Legends' compound bow has been known about since last August, and has popped up in leaks and datamines a few times since. If these rumors turn out to be true, one of these could be revealed for Season 10 later this year.

In the present, Apex Legends is currently in the midst of its War Games series of limited-time modes. Currently, Ultra Zone is the mode taking over Play Apex, where there are three hot zones full of high-tier loot that also restore player’s health and shields over time. Monday will see Auto Banners, followed by Killing Time, and finally Second Chance.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
