There's a lot of reasons to be excited for the upcoming Apex Legends Chaos Theory Collection event. Not only will there be new skins and challenges to complete, but Bangalore will be getting a Heirloom, Caustic is taking over Water Treatment, new items such as Heat Shields are being added to the gme, there seems to be decent weapon and legend balance changes, and more. However, there may be one change on the horizon that eclipses even this event.

A recent devstream took place that showcased some gameplay, and fans were quick to notice a brand new weapon type during the devstream. With this in mind, while it's possible that the Apex Legends Chaos Theory Collection event will see this change happen, it's even likelier than it'll be changed at the start of the next season. Either way, a brand new weapon type opens brand new doors.

Seemingly first discovered by Sanguine, otherwise known as @SomeoneWhoLeaks, this new weapon class is simply labeled Marksman an is seen on an 3X scope attachment. What's likely is that this is an abbreviation for Marksman rifle, as Sniper, LMG, and AR are all shortened versions as well, and fans could see more of this weapon type expanded upon in the future. With this presumably bringing up about a meta shake-up, it seems like the G7 Scout (once a sniper rifle relabeled an assault rifle) and the new 30-30 Repeater are likely shoo-ins for being relabeled. At the same time, though, Sanguine thinks there could be more.

As seen above, they seem to believe that this is "probably for the bow." This is in reference to the previously leaked Apex Legends Compound Bow, a new weapon that may or may not have its own ammo type. It seems unlikely that the Marksman category would have its own ammo type, like the Sniper Rifles, which bodes even better for this. With the bow, it could introduce this new category and get its own ammo, while also shifting how weapons like the G7 and 30-30 work without adding yet another ammo type to the game (aside from the bow). Interested fans can see the above weapon type in the video below (around the 21:30 mark).

For now, though, fans can only wait and see when/if this weapon type is indeed coming to the game. Combined with a bow, it could be an interesting shake-up for Apex Legends' weapon meta, but then it also depends on if this category gets anything special in and of itself.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Switch version releases on March 9th.
