Apex Legends debuted the next chapter in its Stories From the Outlands short film series, confirming Fuse as the next Apex Games competitor. Salvo’s demolitions expert is set to join Apex Legends’ cast in Season 8, launching February 2.

The “Good as Gold” cinematic told Fuse’s origin story, diving in to his complicated history with explosives and his best friend. Fuse and his pal, who fondly refers to him as “Wally,” spent their youth as Salvo freedom fighters in order to remain independent from the Syndicate. The pair is seen recklessly blowing up their government oppressors to the tune of 80s rock. The relationship between the two seems to splinter over time, as Fuse begins spending more time competing in Salvo’s fighting pits instead of participating in their usual operations. The divide between the former comrades comes to a head after Salvo announces it is joining the Syndicate and Fuse has decided to take his caged combat career to the Apex Games. The ensuing argument results in a broken friendship and a severed arm, as Fuse loses his limb after his former ally tosses a grenade in anger.

As the 16th Legend to join Apex Legends, Fuse sets himself apart from his competition through the use of his favorite explosive munitions. While his abilities were not mentioned during the four-minute video, dataminers have already uncovered what they claim to be his ultimate and tactical abilities. Dataminer SomeoneWhoLeaks recently revealed what they claim to be Fuse’s Ultimate ability currently referred to as The Motherlode. According to the dataminer’s clip, Fuse launches a bomb that deals 70 damage upon exploding and leaves a ring of fire in the detonation area that deals as much as 60 additional damage over time.

In addition to The Motherlode, Fuse is rumored to utilize a tactical ability called Airburst Grenade. After the events of his Stories From the Outlands film, the Salvo rebel now brandishes a robotic right arm, which has come equipped with what appears to be a grenade launcher (according to leaked animation files).

Fuse won’t be the only new addition coming to Apex Legends’ Season 8 content update. Salvo’s most popular weapon, the 30-30 Repeater, is being added to the game’s arsenal as the first lever-action rifle. Over 100 items will be up for grabs in Season 8’s Mayhem Battle Pass. King’s Canyon is receiving its third makeover, as “Fuse's entrance has dramatically reshaped” the battle royale’s original map.

Though Fuse’s companion felt betrayed by his sudden departure to the Apex Games, his motives were not entirely made clear. The two spent their entire lives fighting for the independency of their home planet Salvo, making Fuse’s change of heart suspicious. It remains to be seen how his story will unfold over the course of Season 8, but a plan to wrest Syndicate’s newfound control over Salvo by working on the inside doesn’t seem out of the question.

Apex Legends is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development. The Season 8 content update launches on February 2.
