Apex Legends fans are likely ending the quest line, finishing their Battle Pass, and getting some final moments of Ranked on World's Edge in as August draws closer. Season 5 is ending with aplomb, and anticipation for season 6 may just be at an all-time high.

With the number of lore bits and reveals for the upcoming season, it's hard not to be excited. With the Apex Legends quests introduced in season 5 and continuing forward, players get to know their characters a little bit more, with the very first focusing on the relationship with Loba and Revenant. That's not likely to fade, but several reveals put Bangalore, Octane, and Lifeline at the forefront going into season 6. This, in addition to the new character being Ash and a new map, Olympus, being confirmed begs the question: when can we play it?

When Does Apex Legends Season 6 Come Out?

As with most seasonal games, one season typically begins just as one ends. Looking at the pattern of releases for past Apex Legends seasons helps set up when players should be expecting to drop on a new map.

  • Season 1: Wild Frontier began on March 19, 2019 and ended on June 18, 2019. The game was still in its infancy, leading to a couple of weeks' difference before season 2.
  • Season 2: Battle Charge began on July 2, 2019 and ran through to October 1, 2019.
  • Season 3: Meltdown (which introduced World's Edge) began that day, October 1, 2019, and ended on February 3, 2020.
  • Season 4: Assimilation began the day after, February 4, and ran through May 12.
  • Season 5 began on May 12, 2020 and is expected to run to August 17.

This end date is based on its monthly pattern, and perhaps more importantly, when the current Battle Pass expires. What this means is that players should expect Apex Legends season 6 to begin on August 17 or 18, leaving plenty of time for teases, proper season 6 reveals, and more LTMs in Apex Legends.

Either way, players should expect to be dropping on Olympus, checking out Ash, and likely checking out a new Apex Legends gun midway through August. Season 6 is an interesting point for the game, as it seems to be coming into its own in terms of release and content. For example, Apex Legends should always add one legend per season, a pattern that seems unlikely to change. However, season 5 skipped a gun, so new weapons may become an every other season thing or a random thing, depending on the game's needs.

Yet, it's hard not to notice that both Season 3 and Season 6 add new maps. Olympus still has a lot going for it and will likely be the main focused for Ranked, with new rotations for Kings Canyon and World's Edge in standard Trios and Duos next season, but if Season 9 were to add a map, it seems a seasonal pattern may be established regarding characters, guns, and maps.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Steam and Switch ports are coming later this year.
