Apex Legends burst onto the battle royale scene in February of 2019 with excellent reviews. Surprised launched by Respawn, it was instantly considered one of the better battle royale games on the market, and since then, Respawn has continued to support the game by adding creative Legends, unique and varied new guns, and even a fresh map.

One of the most exciting changes in the game came in September of 2019 when Respawn revealed that the game would be altered with a brand new location to fight, that being the addition of World's Edge with Season 3: Meltdown. Another map would be equally exciting for Season 5.

Respawn instantly set the expectation that new maps would be a part of Apex Legends moving forward, and fans have taken notice. With Season 4: Assimilation being half-way completed, it's fair to wonder if a new map could be right around the corner. Seasons 1 and 2 saw Kings Canyon as the playing field for the Apex games. Meanwhile, World's Edge was at the forefront for Seasons 3 and 4. If Respawn were to keep that same rotation going, it could be the perfect timing to release a new map.

Apex Legends Season 5 Map: Angel City

There are tons of amazing opportunities for map-play within the Apex Legends world, specifically because this is also within the Titanfall universe. So far the lore in Apex Legends has been told within small pieces of intel found on the game's website, the characters quips in-game, and from the amazing Stories from the Outlands videos, which helped define the story for Season 4. But Titanfall, thanks to having a full-blown campaign, numerous online maps, and a more vast world to explore has many more areas to explore.

One of the most iconic locations in Titanfall is Angel City. This massive futuristic city is a beautiful and awe-inspiring map in both the original Titanfall and Titanfall 2, the latter being added as free DLC. The large buildings, city streets, and alley-ways allow for rooftop battles, Titan punch-outs, and wall-running acrobatics. While some of those mechanics wouldn't apply to Apex Legends, the change of pace to an urban setting could be super intriguing.

A lot of players love to drop hot in locations like Skull Town in Kings Canyon or Fragment East/West in World's Edge, because fighting in and out of city locations can be a blast. But a whole map based on high rises, rooftop sniping, and holding down buildings could be just the change-up that Apex Legends could use. The entire map wouldn't need to be buildings alone, as Angel City on Titanfall did have streetways, parking lots, and more, and obviously, the Titanfall versions were much smaller than what a battle royale would require. But imagining a Respawn-created gigantic city of buildings, skyrises, a central park, memorials, a plaza, and more could be truly special.

Kings Canyon feels very much influenced by Titanfall maps. For example, Skull Town felt like the Boneyard map, Swamps looks like it was inspired by Swampland, and Runoff is very similar to, well, Runoff. It's completely possible that Angel City will be just a part of a future map, but having it be the whole entire map would be entirely bold for Respawn to pull this off. But with other battle royales attempting to stack up with Apex Legends recently, making a huge urban map could be a way to stand-out.

One reason for hesitation from fans could be that playing in an urban-only map for Season 5 would be too drastic of a change. Season 3 of Apex Legends came with the temporary sunsetting of Kings Canyon, as World's Edge became the only playable map. In time, however, Respawn allowed Kings Canyon to return in the form of ranked play for Season 4. The best way to fix any reluctancy with the Apex Legends faithful this time around is to not completely rid of the other maps. Perhaps in Season 5, Respawn could temporarily sunset World's Edge for a season, but bring Kings Canyon back in some form. That way players would have the options of playing both in the new urban setting of Angel City and the classic fan-favorite unique biomed and open map of Kings Canyon.

Along with rooftop sniping, a lot of the gunplay would allow for close-range battles in Angel City, which would be a pleasant change from the open warfare from World's Edge. Recently fans datamined files that pointed to the C.A.R SMG and Volt SMG being added to the game sometime soon, which happens to top the list of Titanfall guns that should be added to Apex Legends. The guns added in Season 3 and 4 were both snipers, which fit with the long-range fights in World's Edge. Meanwhile, if the datamining is true, SMGs would be perfect for up-close and personal bouts.

As Respawn continues to update and support Apex Legends, adding a new Legend each season continues to be one of the more important additions every few months. Playing as Revenant is a bit tricky, but using his climbing ability on tall skyscrapers could be extremely useful. Re-learning many of the Legends in a new environment may be something that players truly enjoy.

Apex Legends: Loba in Season 5

Revenant's reveal was a sight to behold, as his backstory seems to point to him being an assassin who's life has been drastically modified. In getting brutal revenge on Hammond Robotics, the company that hired and looks to have changed him from a human to some sort of robotic being, he may have created the next Legend for Season 5, Loba. In the Season 4: Assimilation Launch Trailer, Revenant is seen hunting down Loba's family and killing them. The highrise looks like it could be in a metropolis, like Angel City. It would be pretty amazing to see Loba attempt to get revenge in her own backyard against Revenant in Season 5.

Perhaps one small concern moving forward would be the performance of such a map, especially as Respawn plans to bring Apex Legends to mobile. It's possible that a huge metropolitan map could be difficult to pull off. But the developer has proven itself to be one of the more talented as of late, so if anyone could pull off such an ambitious task, it would be Respawn. As Apex Legends continues its massive success, being the top downloaded game for the PS4 in 2019, it would be wise to continue the momentum with aggressive and determined moves.

Angel City has already become a classic locale in gaming. And with the news that Titanfall 3's prospects are dim for now, it would be nice to see the game live on through Apex Legends. The urban setting would allow a unique style of gameplay that hasn't yet been seen in the game.

Additionally, Angel City would be large enough to accompany locations that wouldn't be buildings alone, bringing city parks, monuments, and more. New guns and Legends could help accompany the urban setting. Respawn could keep Kings Canyon in the map rotation, that way the Apex Legends players will have options between the vintage feel of Kings Canyon and the new flair the Angel City would provide.

Apex Legends is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
