Season 3 of Apex Legends has been going on for nearly four months now. For weeks, it's been pretty clear that Season 4 must be imminent, leaving fans to wonder what this next season will bring and which of Apex's many rumored new characters will be added. Well, they can now stop wondering, because Respawn has officially lifted the veil off of Season 4, which now sports the subtitle Assimilation.

Today, the developer of the battle-royale shooter spilled the beans in a new developer video celebrating Apex Legends ahead of its one-year anniversary next month. In celebrating the past, Respawn also prepared players for the near future, announcing that Season 4 will be kicking off on February 4. Naturally, this means new content will be coming to the game on that day, including the next playable character.

Ever since players got used to Season 3's addition to the roster, Crypto, they've been wondering who will follow him in Season 4. The answer, it turns out, is the wrestler-like brawler Forge, whom Respawn confirmed with the artwork of him that was leaked last week. While the developer video didn't show any gameplay footage of him, Respawn did tease that Forge will be well-suited for players who like to get up close and personal with their opponents.

Joining Forge in Season 4's new additions will be a new weapon, a sniper rifle called the Sentinel. Again, Respawn didn't go into too much detail this time, but stated that the Sentinel will set itself apart from Apex's other sniper rifles by including a charge mechanic that sounds similar to Season 3's Charge Rifle. Also like Season 3, Season 4 will see the the debut of a new Ranked series that will see a few changes from the last one, including a new Master Tier. This is turn will mean that the Apex Predator tier will now only be occupied by the top 500 players on each platform.

Rounding things off, Respawn announced that it will be giving out a few extras for existing players to mark Apex's first year. During Season 4's first week, players who log in from February 4 to February 11 will receive a Year 1 Origami Flyer charm, a Year 1 Loyalty badge (which comes in three different versions depending on how long one has been playing Apex), and 10,000 XP for the first match of each day.

While fans wait to see more of  what Season 4 will soon have to offer, they can dive back into Apex Legends' Grand Soiree event and its selection of limited-time modes. Today’s the last day the current one, Armed And Dangerous On World’s Edge, is available. After that, the next one will be King Canyon After Dark (January 24-25), followed by DUMMIEs Big Day (January 26-27).

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
