The recent Apex Legends leak seemed to have been way too comprehensive to be true, featuring a huge array of allegedly upcoming characters, weapons, features, and more. Things now seem to be falling into place, however, and perhaps even confirming the leak's validity, as it were.

Apex Legends' currently active limited-time game mode, Control, is an interesting change of pace for the game's community as a whole, but there's more to it than may be apparent at first. Specifically, Respawn Entertainment may have hidden a special teaser in Control's loading screen, and it looks like a particular character that was prominently featured in the leak itself.

The latest Apex Legends leak showed off 9 new characters, one of whom was Newcastle. Newcastle is supposed to be a powerful mobile tank archetype that specializes in deploying protective shields. The holographic billboards that appear in Control's loading screens picture a silhouette of what seems to be the game's next character, and it matches quite well with what Newcastle is supposed to look like. Naturally, it's worth keeping a pinch of salt around - just in case - but it seems fairly likely by now that the leak was mostly correct.

It's worth pointing out that Newcastle's Apex Legends Season 13 abilities have been leaked in substantial detail, and that Respawn Entertainment is highly unlikely to be making any major changes to the character release schedule at this point in time. As Season 13 should be coming out sometime in May, the addition of a new defensive Legend could substantially change how the game's meta works, and add more variety to the ongoing overuse of Gibraltar himself.

On the lore side of things, Newcastle's identity is mostly a complete unknown still. The working theory is that Newcastle may be Bangalore's brother, though there's not much connecting the two characters. For more details as to who and what Newcastle is, players will need to wait a bit longer still, it would seem.

The leak included way more information than just character data, too. Specifically, the big Apex Legends leak featured 5 new guns, which means the meta is bound to shift in regard to how gunfights play out as well. To say nothing of potential new attachment releases, hop-ups, and other relatively small additions. Though the order of release is unknown at this time, it's clear that Respawn has got heaps of content planned for Apex's near and far future, which ought to keep the fans happy.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
