While it might be hard for some players to believe, Apex Legends is closing in on its 3rd anniversary. Since its release back in February 2019, the game has looked to expand beyond being just a traditional battle royale by introducing various LTMs, such as Winter Express, that look to change up the gameplay. At the start of Season 9, Respawn Entertainment even added a permanent 3v3 mode called Arenas. However, it appears that the developers might have even bigger plans in mind to expand the game at the start of Season 12 with a Call of Duty-inspired mode.

The Call of Duty series has featured many different game modes over the years. However, few have been as much of a staple for the franchise's multiplayer as Domination. While some rules vary from game to game, the primary objective of the game mode is to control various points on a given map in order to accumulate a certain number of points to win. Following its popularity in Activision’s popular franchise, it appears Respawn Entertainment could be bringing its own interpretation of the mode to Apex Legends.

Recently, new information was uncovered about a previously rumored game mode for Apex Legends. In a tweet from January 20, a reputable leaker, known as Shrugtal, gave an update on its possible implementation. They claimed the game mode would look similar to Call of Duty's Domination. Based on the info from the leaker, it appears that the possible version coming to Apex Legends could be called “Control.” Furthermore, they noted that the loadout system for the mode was already added for the Winter Express LTM not long ago, meaning that "Control" could be coming at the start of Season 12.

In addition to unveiling the possible title for the game mode, Shrugtal revealed that it would likely include larger squad sizes. According to the leaker, they believed there could be 9-12 players on a team. They also provided a picture of a portion of the Olympus map, providing a closer look at how matches could play out. The map showed 3 possible objectives to control along with various spawning locations for both teams.

It is worth mentioning that none of this information has been officially confirmed by Respawn Entertainment. As a result, these details regarding the new game mode could be erroneous. Nevertheless, the prospect of a fresh way to play Apex Legends is doubtlessly exciting for numerous gamers. Fortunately, Season 12 is expected to begin sometime at the start of February, meaning fans should learn more shortly.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
