This November, Apex Legends launched Season 11, "Escape," following an explosive Season 10 that saw the introduction of Arenas and changes to the existing World’s Edge map. So far, Season 11 promises to be a big one with the resurrection of a Titanfall 2 antagonist and the return of a much-loved Titanfall weapon. Players also have a brand-new map to explore called Storm Point, the fourth overall to grace Apex servers.

Respawn Entertainment has opted for a vacation-themed map this time around, providing an exotic battle royale arena complete with white sandy beaches and palm trees. Although this island looks tranquil, there are a host of enemies living here that have nothing to do with rival squads. For the first time ever, players can encounter a variety of creatures roaming freely around the map, most of which are predatory and drop loot. Although Prowlers also appear in World’s Edge, they are confined to a specific location on the map and cannot leave this area, differing from the creatures that players can experience in the latest season - just one part of what makes it an improvement from Season 10.

Where Apex Legends Season 11 Succeeds

Changes Coming to Storm Point Map in Apex Legends in Next Update

Every time a new Apex season comes out, a Legend is released. Last season the all-seeing Seer gave Bloodhound a run for his money with new detection abilities, including a heartbeat sensor. While this was a cool addition, few things beat the return of a familiar face from fan-favorite Titanfall 2; the game that preceded Apex Legends. The return of Ash is something many Titanfall and Titanfall 2 fans will be happy to see, especially enhanced by her powerful abilities. These include a passive that can reveal death boxes, an electrical device called an “arc snare” that slows enemies on contact, and an ultimate similar to Wraith’s portal.

Accompanying Ash in Season 11 is the C.A.R. SMG, which was also a primary weapon used in Titanfall and Titanfall 2. With the ability to use light and heavy ammo, this submachine gun is extremely versatile. Along with a high rate of fire and short kill times compared to all Apex Legends weapons, the C.A.R. SMG is a major contender against the Rampage LMG released in Season 10, which has a comparatively slow firing rate and poor close-range performance.

Besides adding features to the game, Respawn Entertainment tweaked some existing content for the new season. Ranked players can now gain maximum Ranked Points in a match even without placing first, as the cap on Kill Points has been removed after many community requests. This places more emphasis on the player’s shooting or attacking ability over how long they can survive. For the first time ever, the system now also takes the difference in player’s Ranks into account, with a higher-ranked player gaining less RP for killing a lower-ranked player and vice versa.

Season 11 has also been kind to Wattson fans, giving the Legend a major buff that makes her a lot more of a threat than in Season 10. Her tactical ability has been replaced by strong electrical barriers that include a 30 percent damage increase to enemies, a 60 percent decrease in time taken to reactivate after an ally passes through, and a 50 percent decrease in recharge rate. As for the interception pylon, it can now last forever rather than being bound to a timer, and has a shield recharge rate increased by 150 percent.

Although Season 10 brought a lot to the table for Apex Legends, November witnessed the comeback of original Titanfall content and major alterations to the Ranked System that has been requested by players. Respawn Entertainment concentrated its character improvements onto Wattson, with most players agreeing that a buff was overdue. Season 11 has delivered on a lot of wishes, leaving huge boots to fill for Season 12.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
