As with every major seasonal update in Apex Legends, there's been plenty of new content added to the game for Apex Season 10: Emergence. There's a lot for fans to sink their teeth into, and alongside the reworked World's Edge map and new Legend Seer, Season 10 has also added a new weapon in the form of the Rampage LMG. Not every season sees a new weapon added to the mix, but the past several have helped expand the game's roster and make for more dynamic gameplay. It seems as though the Rampage LMG will continue that trend.

With the announcement that the Spitfire LMG will be taken out of the regular loot pool in favor of being a care package-exclusive weapon, many Apex Legends fans were upset. The Spitfire is one of the most versatile and deadly weapons in the game, but hopefully the Rampage will be able to take its place for the time being.

The Rundown on the Rampage

As mentioned above, the Rampage is a new LMG that's been added to Apex in Season 10: Emergence. This will be the fourth LMG in the game, and the second that uses heavy ammo. So far, all LMGs use either heavy or energy ammo but the Rampage is unique in its use of the thermite grenade. When firing the weapon regularly, the Rampage has a pretty slow rate of fire - in fact, it's the slowest firing automatic weapon in the game. Unlike the Devotion, the Rampage's slow rate of fire doesn't speed up when holding down the trigger, instead, it requires a thermite grenade to charge its rate of fire. All a player needs to do to charge up the weapon is pick up a thermite and hit the on-screen button prompt. This drastically increases the rate of fire, making the Rampage even more deadly.

In terms of damage specs, the Rampage packs quite a punch. It does 42 damage for headshots, 28 damage to the body, and 24 damage to all other limbs and extremities. Because of its slower fire rate, it can be used for long-range assaults, but as it still is a fully automatic weapon, it's better used in medium to short-range combat. As it's still a new addition, there's still time for players to experiment with it and its true viability will be seen once it's been broken in during competitive play.

Like other weapons that require non-hop-up loot to receive bonuses, such as the Sentinel's use of shield cells, when powered up by a thermite the Rampage loses charge gradually over time - as well as after being fired. This means that there's a ticking clock element after being loaded with a thermite grenade, so players need to be strategic about when the best time to charge the Rampage is.

The Rampage is able to be upgraded with most regular ground loot including barrel stabilizers, extended stocks, extended heavy magazines, and every type of optic barring the 6x sniper scope, the 4-8x variable sniper scope, the 4-10x digital sniper threat scope, and the 1x digital threat sight. For all intents and purposes, it can pick up everything that the Spitfire does while also having a new capability to be powered up by a thermite grenade. With the Spitfire being locked in care packages, it's likely the Rampage will become the LMG of choice for plenty of players in Apex Legends Season 10.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
