With the growth of eSports and the gaming industry as a whole, it should be no surprise to see colleges embracing these new concepts. In fact, Becker College is now offering students a "path-to-pro" Apex Legends scholarship, which grants a one-time $5,000 reward for new students.

Becker College, for those not in the know, is located in central Massachusetts and has been recognized for its contributions to the gaming industry. The MassDiGI (Massachusetts Digital Games Institute) is based here, which focuses on the growth of innovation and the gaming industry within Massachusetts. It has also been recognized by the Princeton Review as having the third best game design program in the world, which may draw the attention of many would-be game designers and Apex Legends pros.

This scholarship was designed in conjunction with two of eSports leading brands: Team Genji and Helix eSports. It was also revealed that students will have the chance to try out for a new competitive Apex Legends team in the fall. Becker College eSports general manager Timothy Loew went on to say that, alongside this scholarship and competitive team, Becker College is "home to the first varsity eSports program in Massachusetts and the first bachelor in eSports management degree in the U.S."

For those interested in the one-time scholarship, high school juniors and seniors must register for recruiting, which can be done here. Apex Legends players and applicants will be evaluated by Team Genji's analytics platform and Becker College staff. Team Genji's CEO William Collis went on to say, "Building a recruiting pipeline from high school to college, and then hopefully to a pro team like Genji, is what we're all about."

All in all, this seems like a solid opportunity for Apex Legends lovers and for those who want a degree related to the gaming industry. This means players will want to be brushing up their skills prior to the evaluation tournament and perhaps their main. For now, Wraith is the most popular main in the game, but it's possible that one of the new characters shake up the meta before this fall.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
