With Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play battle royale shooter Apex Legends unleashing season four this week came the introduction of a new character: A revenge-seeking robot assassin with the mind of a man, Revenant. The Electronic Arts subsidiary has been pushing Revenant to be the face of season four and is continuing to do so by releasing a unique "Gilded Rose" skin, available starting today for those who link their Twitch Prime accounts to the game.
The special skin for Apex Legends' newest character features a brighter red, gold, and green color scheme for the otherwise dark-toned robot. It is simultaneously both bloodier than Revenant's default skin, with notable hand prints smeared onto each of his shoulder pads; but also more calm and artistic, with literal roses painted down each upper arm.
On the Apex Legends news page revealing the Twitch Prime skin it has been described as somewhat of a Valentine's Day gift, in which even though Revenant does not have a heart the player "can still fall in love with his blood-red bouquet display!" Gilded Rose Revenant will be available until March 19, and as of this writing is claimable alongside a "Geometric Anomaly" skin for the previously hitbox-bugged Caustic.
Revenant has been popular since being introduced into Apex Legends because of the mystery behind his backstory, his disrupt-and-kill play style, and the obscure references in his animations still being uncovered. Not long ago it was found that Revenant can reference Naruto when using Death Totem, his ultimate ability.
The character has also been the subject of multimedia marketing schemes far outside the realm of his origins. Notably, there is an official Instagram filter that can turn anyone into Revenant while perusing the popular social media app.
Season four introduced a whole host of other things into the battle royale, including changes to maps and brand-new Sniper Ammo. But Revenant is quite clearly the stand-out addition for Respawn Entertainment, and his Twitch Prime skin is just one outlet through which the developer has shown that off.
On the Apex Legends Twitch Prime page the next exclusive skin is set to be revealed in mid-March, presumably sometime before Gilded Rose Revenant is taken out of contention. Anyone subscribed to the service would be remiss not to pick it up now and get started slaughtering their opponents in style.
