Apex Legends news is flowing today, and the newest tidbit involves ground loot and care package weapons for Respawn Entertainment's popular battle royale. The beloved Peacekeeper shotgun is being removed from care packages and will return back to standard ground loot for Season 9: Legacy for Apex Legends. Meanwhile, the Triple Take sniper rifle will replace it and will now be a care package weapon.

Season 9 of the first-person shooter will begin on May 4, 2021, and Respawn already announced Valkyrie as the new Legend for Apex Legends last week. More details are coming out today, including the information about the Peacekeeper shotgun returning from the care package to the ground.

When Apex Legends released two years ago, the Peacekeeper was a standard ground loot weapon, and a favorite one at that for many. But with Respawn Entertainment mixing up the gameplay formula quite often, the Peacekeeper became a care package weapon at one point and the Mastiff shotgun (once a care package weapon itself) was moved to ground loot status. But with Season 9 of Apex Legends, that Peacekeeper change will be reverted. However, according to @Titanfallblog/Apex Legends News on Twitter, it will be the Triple Take that replaces the Peacekeeper in the care package.

If this change is true, the reversion of the Peacekeeper and Mastiff change that took place in Season 5 will only be a half-measure, and now Apex Legends will have four shotguns as ground loot: the Peacekeeper, the Mastiff, the Mozambique, and the EVA-8. This will be quite the change for Apex Legends veterans.

There are a lot of exciting changes taking place in Apex Legends, specifically in Season 9: Legacy. Along with the new Legend, a bow weapon, and the standard buffs and nerfs that come with updates for the battle royale, Respawn Entertainment finally detailed the new permanent Arenas mode for Apex Legends. The particulars of the mode will likely remind players of games like CS: GO, Valorant, or Rogue Company, as players have single lives for each round, spend cash on weapons and gear in between said round, and work as an organized crew for team-oriented success.

Apex Legends continues to be one of the mainstays in not only the battle royale genre, but the online multiplayer space in general. This is likely in part thanks to the way Respawn Entertainment constantly shakes up the gameplay. While massive additions like the new Arenas mode are an obvious makeover, even small changes like switching up which guns are ground loot can alter the way players enjoy the moment-to-moment gameplay.

Apex Legends is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
