Apex Legends, the massively popular battle royale from developer Respawn Entertainment, has just undergone a soft-reset for its ranked mode within the game. The developer laid out the plan back in February, at the start of Season 4: Assimilation, and now that the season is half-way through, ranked mode for Apex Legends is seeing a shake-up that many fans will surely enjoy.
There are a few important changes happening with this "soft-reset," as Respawn is calling it. The biggest twist isn't so small, however, as ranked mode will now take place on Kings Canyon for the remainder of the season.
The fan-favorite map has seen limited-time event usage since it was replaced with the larger World's Edge map in season 3. Respawn did continue to evolve World's Edge into season 4 for continual changes and improvements. However, Respawn confirmed that although World's Edge will still be played on in the standard mode, Kings Canyon is the go-to location for the rest of the season in ranked play.
As far as the soft-reset is concerned, this is where the information provided in the original Season 4 update from developer Respawn is important. Although this was also the show in which the devs unveiled the Legend "Forge," who was later killed off before he even was able to play in the games, the rest of the details remain true.
At the same point in which the map changes from World's Edge to Kings Canyon (March 23rd into March 24th), the Season 4 "split" occurs. Players will be knocked down 1.5 tiers at this soft-reset point. So if someone was at Platinum IV, they will be dropped down to Silver II at the start of this split. This soft-reset might be the perfect opportunity to reevaluate gameplans and strategies, or even learn how to master shotguns while returning to Kings Canyon.
Respawn also made sure to detail what the rewards will look like in regards to this split. Whatever a player reaches as their highest mark in either split, that is the reward that the player will receive. For example, if someone were to have only reached Silver in the first split, but Diamond in the second, the Diamond rewards are what they will receive. Additionally, there is a bonus reward for reaching the same high tier in both splits.
Some hardcore fans were hoping that this soft-reset would come with a large update. Some of the weaker Legends could use a major buff, but unfortunately, no such update presented itself this time around. Still, dropping back into Kings Canyon is more than enough excitement for a multitude of Apex Legends loyalists, and regrinding back up the ranked tier list is something that many enjoy.
