Although Apex Legends seemingly dropped out of nowhere into one of the most monopolized gaming genres to date, Respawn's free-to-play title has instantly become a hit. Even though the battle royale genre has been dominated by powerhouses like Fortnite, PUBG, and Blackout for many months now, it has taken practically no time for the newest battle royale to reach the top of the most-viewed charts on Twitch. And if the game's most recent potential leak holds true, then the game could see another massive rise in popularity.
Despite Apex Legends having only released mere days ago, it has quickly gained the attention of millions of gamers and developers alike. The game was even recognized by PUBG Creator Brendan Green, who praised it on Twitter for its "fantastic launch" and "great new take" on the battle royale genre. This came shortly after the game reached over 2.5 million players, though it now celebrates over 10 million players across all platforms. With over 1 million concurrent players and counting, the game is continuing to grow at a rapid pace.
However, if there is one feature of multiplayer games that drives players to keep coming back to the same online multiplayer game day after day, it is competition. Being even more specific, competitive play. A recent image posted on Reddit by ApexBRNews has just surfaced and is believed to be proof that ranked play will be coming to Apex Legends. Having supposedly been found by data miners, this image raises the question of whether Respawn will implement the feature soon.
While ranked play seems to be a must-have for this type of game and genre, a feature like this could not have been expected so soon. This is why the image must be taken with a grain of salt, as there is no real proof backing it up.
However, considering that Apex Legends was solely Respawn's idea and had nearly nothing to do with EA, it is certainly possible that this leak could very well be true. Respawn has always had an extremely good reputation with its fans and Apex Legends launched remarkably polished, so it is not that farfetched that ranked play could be added this early on in the game's lifespan.
Apex Legends is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
