Apex Legends' Arena mode has been popular among the community ever since it launched alongside Season 9, but the mode isn't without its flaws. Luckily, a dev from Respawn Entertainment confirmed this week that some changes are coming to the ranked matchmaking for Arenas.

According to a Twitter thread in response to a frustrated player, Robert West, one of Respawn's senior designers for Apex Legends, says that the team is currently working on making the Ranked Arenas experience "better." Twitter user @LeoTheLion25 shared their experience of losing 60 AP from a single loss after spending two hours grinding for 68 AP. West reassured them that improvements to the way Arenas handles AP is coming sometime soon.

In the thread, West seems a little puzzled by the major loss of AP after only a single defeat but says that this issue shouldn't be commonplace because one of the only ways for it to happen is if a player's AP is much higher than their MMR. The other way a player could lose so much AP in a loss is if they lose to a team of significantly lower rank, however, that should stop being an issue, according to West, in the next update to Apex Legends.

There aren't a whole lot of specific details confirmed in the Twitter thread about how exactly Apex Arenas will be fixed in the upcoming update. It seems like Respawn is still ironing out some of its ideas regarding fixes, but West assures that a patch is coming soon but doesn't supply a solidified date. Alongside the matchmaking fixes, West also confirmed that at least one bug fix for Arenas is in the works as well.

Although they're both included in Apex Legends, it often feels like the Battle Royal mode and Arenas are two completely separate games as they both have their own metas despite featuring the same equipment and characters. As a result, a lot of the issues with the Battle Royal's ranked matchmaking have been fixed while Arenas is still experiencing some growing pains.

This is to be expected somewhat, however, as Arenas is still relatively new to the game. As it gets older and Respawn continues supporting it, Arenas should get to a place where it's on point with the Battle Royal in terms of quality with its ranked matchmaking. Hopefully, the next update to the game will put it in a better spot and fix a lot of the issues with the ranked queue.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
