With Apex Legends launching its season 10 update on August 3rd, players have been busy diving into the new content. Observant fans have found a leak for an upcoming town takeover related to legend Rampart.

A town takeover is when a section of the game map is changed to be modeled after a particular legend. These takeovers allow developer Respawn Entertainment to make changes to the Apex Legends' game map while also expanding on the different character’s stories. In this case, the legend is Rampart, who was first introduced to Apex Legends in Season 6. The first town takeover occurred way back in Season 2 when Octane’s Gauntlet landed on the Kings Canyon map.

Dataminer and YouTuber GarretLeaks has found several pieces of information that he has compiled into a YouTube video on his channel, garret. First, in one of Apex Legends' battle pass backgrounds, there is a picture of Rampart’s family with a note containing the name Big Maude. This is believed to refer to Rampart’s ship, which is expected to crash land into the game’s map as part of her town takeover. Rampart is also said to be getting some changes to her kit and abilities as well. An unrelated monster collection event is also incoming.

Other teasers found by datamining the game’s code are vague, but Garret has found timestamps stating when these teasers should happen. The first tease is expected on September 5th, the second on September 7th, and the third and final on September 10th. These teasers are also expected to be related to the character Rampart as the code in question explicitly uses Rampart’s name. They are believed to take place on the Apex Legends' World’s Edge map although the exact location is unknown at this point.

One effective way that Apex Legends has managed to differentiate itself from other battle royales is by having unique playable legends that all have their own kits and abilities. Warzone and Fortnite have changeable skins for players to express themselves, but not full-blown characters with personalities and backstories. By expanding the lore of these unique characters further, Apex Legends can make its game world feel more lived in. Blizzard's Overwatch is another fantastic example of a shooter with excellent characters that capture the imaginations of players.

The battle royale genre is fiercely competitive, and top dogs like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite are constantly producing new content to keep players engaged. Fortnite is currently featuring an Ariana Grande concert with wild visuals and mini-games set to her music. While Apex Legends has yet to do anything as big in scope as a concert featuring a massive pop star, the new content Respawn Entertainment has been releasing still manages to keep the game fresh.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
