With Apex Legends season 10 putting the Spitfire into the Care Package, there's no doubt many players may be looking for a new go-to LMG. The Devotion remains as the next best prior to season 10, and it'll be interesting to see how the L-Star EMG works with its new changes. However, many players may be looking to try out the new Rampage LMG, which some have called a "slower" but "stronger" Spitfire.

The comparisons ahead of the Apex Legends season 10 launch, of course, may come from less experience and more from the fact that they are both based on heavy ammo. The Rampage LMG also has the added benefit of charging up with a Thermite grenade, but that's not the only difference. In fact, Game Rant recently took place in a roundtable with Respawn Entertainment, where game designer John Ellenton said the two will likely differ in practice quite a bit.

The difference between the two Apex Legends weapons are steep enough that Ellenton goes as far as to say that "Spitfire users might not actually be super into the Rampage. we'll have to see." According to Ellenton, the biggest difference is going to come down to speed and range. With the Spitfire, players were pretty good with it at all ranges, even close-up. Players could, in these situations, "spray and pray, unload you clip, and still be successful." However, in contrast, Ellenton says,

"With the Rampage, it's going to be a little bit harder to have that success at close range."

Ellenton also described the Rampage as a strong mid range weapon and something that is good for poking enemies, but for the Rampage LMG to be good at close range, players are going to want to charge it up. There's not always time for that in a game, though. When a player knows they are about to push into close range combat, it's good to charge it up ahead of time, but if players are the ones getting pushed by surprise or they get third-partied, it's not always the safest thing to stop and charge.

Ellenton's advice is to carry something as a back-up, such as the R-99 or a Peacekeeper, as players cannot universally rely on the Rampage as many did the Spitfire. Of course, it remains to be seen how Spitfire lovers react to the Rampage in-game, but at the end of the day, they can always hunt for a Spitfire in the Apex Legends season 10 care packages.
