Apex Legends recently announced a new gameplay mode titled Arenas that aims to take the title beyond the battle royale genre. While the mode has been rumored for a very long time, its official announcement has led some players to start voicing their hopes for what areas from Apex Legends maps for the mode will feature.

While not everything is known about Arenas mode yet, Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that it is a 3v3 elimination game mode that will see Apex Legends playing much more similarly to Valorant. Respawn has also said that the mode will be played on five different maps made specifically for the mode, but that hasn't stopped some players from hoping that iconic locations from the game's history might make an appearance.

In a post to the game's subreddit, user Firestorm8570 brought up the idea of seeing the area of Apex Legends' first map known as Skull Town brought back as a map for the Arenas mode. Skull Town is a well-remembered location that had two lines of tall buildings crossing one another and that saw a lot of intense firefights taking place because of the area's high-level loot and verticality that allowed Apex Legends players to take full advantage of their legends' mobility and special abilities.

It is for these same reasons that some Apex Legends fans are pointing towards Skull Town as a great option for the new Arenas mode. The comments of the Reddit post have many players coming out in support of the idea, saying that they would love to revisit the area as it was removed from the map as part of Apex Legends' frequent map updates. However, some other players in the comments have other perspectives and think that the map might not work as well for the Arenas mode since there will be so many fewer players there at any given time.

It is great to see the Apex Legends community getting so excited for the game's upcoming new mode, and the idea to bring back retired map locations is certainly a novel one that could make the mode something really special for Apex Legends. Of course, whether or not Respawn Entertainment decides to do so very much remains to be seen, but even if the original area is deemed incompatible with the Arenas mode, maybe the developers can design a new map based on the area for fans who want to return to Skull Town. Until then, Apex Legends players have the upcoming Season 9 to look forward to that promises lots of new content coming to the battle royale next month.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
