Shadow Royale is a returning LTM for Apex Legends. The Halloween-themed mode was first available as part of the 2020 Fight or Fright Event and has since become popular with fans. One reason for its popularity is due to its unusual spin on traditional battle royale gameplay. When players are eliminated in the mode, they get to respawn as Shadow Form Legends. While playing as a Shadow Form, players can wall run and double jump. These new mechanics were reminiscent of those found in the Titanfall games.

While the mode is running according to plan, some players are unsatisfied with how Respawn has handled the LTM. One major complaint players are lobbying against the developer is the amount of time available to play Shadow Royale. While the Monsters Within Event started in Apex Legends on October 12, gamers only gained access to the LTM on October 26. Unfortunately, this means that fans only have a week to play the mode. As one might suspect, many gamers are unsatisfied with this decision from Respawn.

To make matters worse, problems have appeared regarding Event challenges in Apex Legends. At the beginning of the event, players, such as TheMercante on Reddit, noticed that daily challenges included several relating to the Shadow Royale event. “There are daily missions for Shadow Royale even though the mode will come out 2 weeks later,” they said.

Strangely, now that the LTM has started, players have pointed out that daily challenges are only for Arenas, omitting the Shadow Royale mode. This has frustrated many fans that want to play the LTM and also earn rewards. One user known as NushiDA commented, “Guess I'm not getting any rewards then. I'm not playing Arenas until they realize just how bad the matchmaking is.”

Another complaint that fans had with the mode was that it returned to Kings Canyon. Many players wanted to see Respawn change things up by adding the LTM to the World’s Edge map instead. One user, known on Reddit as Supercomfyplanet, even shared a picture of what Fragment, a location on World's Edge, could look like after dark. In addition, some players wanted Respawn to bring back the 2019 version of the LTM, known as Shadowfall. While this is subjective based on the player, some liked that Shadowfall was a solo mode, something not usually seen in Apex Legends.

It will be interesting to see how Respawn responds to player complaints about Shadow Royale. Recently, a trailer for Season 11 of Apex Legends was unveiled, showing off a new map called Storm Point, along with a new Legend, Ash. Hopefully, for fans, the underwhelming state of the current Halloween event means that the developers have put all their time and energy into the launch of this upcoming seasonal content.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
