Apex Legends news is coming soon, according to the game's director, Chad Grenier. In the wake of rumors of the new Nintendo Switch port release, some think it might finally be confirmation of the Apex Legends Switch release date.
The Nintendo Switch version of the battle royale was originally expected to launch last fall. The Switch port of Apex Legends was originally announced all the way back in June. However, after the initial announcement, EA and Respawn went relatively quiet. In October, when a Twitter follower asked Grenier if the project got completely scrapped, he assured them that the game was still on the way. However, he stated he couldn't say more than that about the situation. Later that month, the developers announced the title was officially pushed back into 2021.
Grenier still isn't saying for sure when Apex Legends might release, but he did take to Twitter again earlier this week to tease an announcement. He was asked by yet another follower for some information about when the game is expected to launch. Grenier wasn't specific about the release date, but did respond that he would have some news on the subject "very soon."
Some in the game's community hoped the Apex Legends' Switch launch would happen in January, however, the month came and went without any official word. This past week, rumors sparked up the Switch port is coming in the first week of February. Those assertions were backed up by an Amazon Japan retail listing with a release date of February 2. A YouTube video from a popular leaker echoed the rumor. However, neither Electronic Arts nor Respawn have officially confirmed the launch listing was accurate. The North American Amazon site didn't mirror its Japanese counterpart either.
With Season 8 of Apex Legends set to kick off on February 2, some in the community, including several Twitter users who joined the thread where Grenier teased news; posited this would be a perfect time to also launch the Switch port.
For now, the expectations that the Nintendo Switch is getting the game on the same day all its other platforms launch the new season is speculation. A recent report from Go Nintendo did shed a bit of light on how Apex Legends will eventually arrive. Both that Amazon Japan listing and Nintendo's official 2021 pamphlet make mention of the game only being a digital retail release. That means there will be no game card for the Nintendo Switch.
