Apex Legends Season 3 is less than a week from its October 1 start date, but excited Apex Legends players won't have to wait to find out just what Respawn Entertainment has planned. Today, Respawn released its "Launch Trailer" for Season 3 of Apex Legends, a cinematic trailer revealing that there are big changes in store. Not only does the trailer offer an introduction to the new Apex Legends character, Crypto, but it also reveals that Season 3 will be adding an entirely new map.

Welcome to World's Edge, Apex Legends' new map. The new Season 3 trailer is basically a tour of the new map, briefly showcasing a huge variety of the map's locations. There's also an early moment in the trailer when the "players" are dropping onto the new map that features a wide look at World's Edge. It's more like concept art than a look at the official thing, but it provides a sense of what the World's Edge map will offer.

World's Edge is difficult to describe at first glance. It's a much more alien landscape than is typical for battle royale games, even including Kings Canyon and it's lumbering giant alien animals. It features locations including a large magma field, a geyser area, and what looks to be a space elevator. There are also what appear to be rigs of some sort to pump something out of the earth. One such rig is encased in blue crystal, as if something went terribly wrong. Also, there appears to be a moving train on the map.

The majority of the trailer focuses on the individual legends, the characters, of Apex LegendsNew character Crypto gets a lot of attention, but Mirage gets a surprising amount of screentime, too.

Season 3, which goes by the subtitle of Meltdown, will be starting on October 1. Apex Legends players will have a few more days to make the best of Season 2 and what may be the final run for Kings Canyon. Respawn will certainly be sharing more information about its Season 3 plans, including exactly what's going on with the maps, very soon.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
